Those who observe long-standing traditions should know about what you can eat, what foods to exclude during dry eating during fasting. The methods of cooking and the absence of thermal processing for this significant period for Christians have their own long-established rules.

What does the prescription mean

In modern reality, the duration of the preparation of the soul and body is almost seven weeks. Each of them has its own rules, indulgences and strict prohibitions. It is believed that fasting makes sense only if food restrictions are accompanied by a refusal of entertainment, turning to God and prayers.

On certain days of Lenten weeks, believers must observe dry food during fasting. With the 2021 grocery and ready-to-eat list, you'll be sure of exactly which foods are allowed.

There are days of the week and church dates on which small indulgences are allowed, and days when hot food is allowed for parishioners of the Orthodox Church. Many sources remind people who choose to fast that fasting is not a diet. At the same time, indulge in gluttony, replacing meat food with culinary delights, means a misunderstanding of its essence.

Strict rules for those who understand the true essence of fasting provide for certain patterns by day of the week:

  1. Monday, Wednesday and Friday - exclusively dry food. It cannot be thermally processed, flavored with seasonings and vegetable fats.
  2. On the first day of Lent, fasting is recommended (rest from overeating during Maslenitsa week). This year it is March 15th.
  3. Hot food is allowed on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (with oil on weekends, without oil on other days).
  4. On three big holidays - Lazarev Saturday, Palm Sunday and Annunciation (April 7) - grape wine (quite a bit), fish and seafood are allowed.
  5. April 30 - Good Friday. Complete refusal of food is prescribed on this day.

Lent is a special time that true believers choose for physical and spiritual cleansing. Its duration is not accidental - this is the time Jesus Christ spent in the desert.

The basic principle - the rejection of animal food - passed from the Slavs from the times of paganism. They refused to slaughter livestock in order to obtain offspring and dairy products.

When choosing recipes and dishes in order to observe dry eating during fasting, you need to know what you can eat, and select all the ingredients especially strictly. For example, homemade crackers, dried in the oven, are already thermally processed, and in the store can contain vegetable oil or animal fats prohibited in days of severe restrictions in flavoring flavors. For the same reason, on dry eating days, you cannot eat purchased Korean salads - each of them contains vegetable oil in the recipe.

In the preparation of salads, you can safely use soy sauce, garlic and onions, hot peppers, herbs, sesame and flax seeds, cinnamon and vanilla. It is impossible to cook dried fruit compote on days of strict restrictions, but you can soak them, prepare delicious snacks. For example, you can stuff prunes with walnuts and season with honey, grind with nuts in a meat grinder or blender, make a paste with honey, cookies with fresh berries, or balls.
