Scientific discussion about the existence of pheromones in humans has been going on for a long time. However, until now, researchers cannot say with certainty whether communication using chemical signals is available to humans. But American scientists have confirmed another hypothesis: the smell of male sweat has a beneficial effect on women.

Scientists from the University of California at Berkeley decided to investigate the effects of androstadienone, a testosterone derivative found in high concentrations in men's sweat. They managed to find out that this chemical compound affects the mood, physiological and mental activity of women.

Scientists from Rice University under the leadership of assistant professor of psychology Denise Chen undertook to test the assumption. They decided to study the effect of human sweat released during sexual arousal. As a result of experiments, it turned out that in response to a chemical signal from an excited man, several areas of the female brain are activated at once.

In humans, there is an analogue of the Jacobsonian organ, which other mammals recognize pheromones. But according to research results, this small area of the inner surface of the brain has already lost contact with its "neighbors" as a result of evolution.

In the end, the researchers came to an unambiguous conclusion: the smell of sweat from men's armpits can improve women's mood and even stimulate the production of lutropin, a hormone that can stimulate ovulation.

Moreover, women are affected by the smell of not only male sweat, but also female sweat. In another experiment, the sweat of one woman was applied to the upper lip of another. It turned out that after such olfactory stimulation, the menstrual cycle of the subjects was synchronized with those from whom they took sweat.
