The most expensive Barbie doll was sold the day before at Christie's. The cost of the toy was 302.5 thousand dollars. Of particular value is the doll's necklace, decorated with a 1-carat pink diamond.

As expected, buyers appreciated not so much the doll in a black cocktail dress as its jewelry by designer Stefano Canturi. His work is worn by many Hollywood and show business stars such as Nicole Kidman and Linda Evangelista.

Canturi received an order to make the most expensive Barbie during last year's celebrations that marked the 50th anniversary of the famous doll. All proceeds from the sale of the precious toy will go to a fund dedicated to breast cancer.

Initially, a Barbie with a Canturi necklace was estimated at 300-500 thousand dollars. By the way, collectors pay approximately the same price for each carat of colored cut diamonds.

Previously, no Barbie doll in the entire 50-year history of existence has been rated so highly. The first Barbie sold for only $ 3. However, already in 2004, the 1959 doll was sold at eBay for 3.5 thousand.

In 2006, a unique collection of Barbie dolls was sold at Christie's in London for 260,000 francs. Initially, it was assumed that the number one doll would be a 1959 Barbie in a black and white striped swimsuit and sunglasses. However, it went under the hammer for only 6,600 francs.

The most expensive was a doll released in 1965 - for a Barbie in a red evening dress, the auction participant paid 20 thousand francs (about 17 thousand dollars). This has been the record price for a Barbie so far. In total, four thousand Barbie dolls from the collection of the Dutch woman Marina Cohen, who created her together with her mother for 40 years, were put up for auction in 2006.
