Supermodel Naomi Campbell is known not only for her excellent appearance and aggressiveness. The British beauty makes friends with many "powerful of this world" and can easily interview her friend Hugo Chavez or chat about various little things with Nelson Mandela. However, some of Naomi's friendships can put her in an awkward position. The supermodel found herself at the center of a noisy scandal, in which, in addition to her, major political figures are involved.

Recently, Campbell's name appeared in the court of The Hague, where the trial of ex-President of Liberia Charles Taylor is currently taking place. The former political leader has been accused of a range of crimes, including the atrocities of his insurgents in Sierra Leone, the illegal arms trade, the illegal sale of precious stones and even cannibalism.

According to some reports, one of these "bloody" diamonds was donated by Taylor to Naomi Campbell during a dinner in South Africa in 1997 and is evidence of his involvement in the illegal sale of precious stones, according to Rosbalt news agency.

Taylor himself denies any involvement in the incident and claims that he never gave a diamond to a supermodel. Naomi is invited to court, where she must act as a witness in an important process.

The trial of one of the most brutal dictators of our time began in The Hague in early June 2006. But Charles Taylor refused to appear in court, and also barred his lawyer from speaking at court hearings. “I do not believe that I will be provided with a fair trial. I have only one lawyer, while the prosecution has ten lawyers,”Taylor wrote in a letter to the judges of the Hague Tribunal.

A total of 11 charges have been brought against the former President of Liberia, including leading the massacre in the Sierra Leone civil war, involving children in armed conflict, trafficking into sexual slavery and torture. If Taylor is found guilty of the crimes he is charged with, he faces life imprisonment.
