Afraid of adultery? Then try not to earn more than your husband. As discovered by American experts, the likelihood of adultery directly depends on the level of income of the spouses. Unfaithful wives usually hold higher positions and receive more than their cheated husbands. And men who are prone to cheating earn less than their wives.

A group of students and teachers led by a graduate student of the Department of Sociology Christine Munsch managed to identify a unique financial and moral pattern: “According to our data, the higher the difference in the salaries of a husband and wife, the more chances they have of cheating on each other”.

The study authors from Cornell University emphasized that the sample is representative of a specific age group. The revealed patterns can be considered fair for young families, while the situation in “mature” families is still to be studied, Infox.ru reports.

The high salary of the wife becomes a more significant motivation for cheating in the family.

If the representative of the stronger sex has an advantage in income, this does not so clearly affect marital infidelity, the group of Christine Munsch calculated.

The study, which was conducted over six years - from 2001 to 2007, involved a total of 9 thousand people aged 17 to 27 years. A detailed anonymous survey showed that 7% of men from this sample during the specified period at least once cheated on their regular partner, including their official spouse. At the same time, only 3% of women admitted to similar behavior.

Earlier, scientists stated that the most unreliable partners in marriage are those who communicate a lot with other people at work or take care of them professionally.

So, the highest probability of divorce - 40% - is among ballerinas, choreographers, masseurs and bartenders. A similar “risky” group includes nurses, psychiatrists and social workers who help the elderly and disabled. Chefs, secretaries, and mathematicians are less at risk - they have a 20 percent chance of divorcing or moving out with a partner. Travel agents, writers, and law enforcement officials have a 16 percent risk - slightly higher than firefighters and teachers.
