The COVID-19 situation in the Russian capital has not stabilized. Therefore, discussions have intensified again over whether Moscow will be quarantined from coronavirus on entry and exit again.

Why did they talk about a possible quarantine

First of all, the following events contributed to this:

  1. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin made a statement that the situation with the coronavirus in the capital has become more tense. He also met with federal executives to discuss the rationale for tightening quarantine measures.
  2. For students in grades 6-11, the holidays were extended from November 9 to 22. Over the 3 weeks that the schoolchildren spent at home, the dynamics of infection began to decline, which is why the number of new infected people also decreased.
  3. After a slight improvement in the coronavirus situation, a message appeared on the official website of the mayor of Moscow that this week the state of affairs has become problematic again. This could be observed by the number of hospitalizations.

Remote work has also been extended until November 29. This ban also extended to children's organizations that provide leisure time and provide additional education.

What will influence the decision-making by the authorities

As of today, the official answer to the question of whether Moscow will be quarantined from coronavirus on entry and exit or not is negative. The introduction of access control is not planned. At the same time, the mayor of Moscow claims that the next 2 weeks will be considered as a guideline. They will provide an understanding of what to expect next from a pandemic. Either it will start to decline, or at least stabilize.

It is also possible that the number of infected people will grow. It is for this reason that the main goal now for the authorities of the capital is a systematic reduction in the number of cases.

The mayor of Moscow named reducing the load on the bed capacity as one of the key tasks. Thanks to its achievement, any Muscovite, as needed, will receive timely medical assistance.

Today, Sobyanin sees no reason to introduce a total lockdown with restrictions on entry and exit, since, despite the impressive figures for the number of hospitalized, hospitals can cope with this load. Moscow is provided with all the necessary medicines for inpatient treatment. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of introducing a number of point limiting measures.

What restrictions will be relevant in November-December

According to the mayor of the capital, the mask regime will definitely remain relevant in the months indicated. According to him, 90% of the capital's residents comply with it now. In public transport, this figure is about 80%. Sobyanin said that the requirements for wearing masks will be strict.

Moreover, in order to verify the fulfillment of this requirement, the police will also be involved, which will make rounds, including shopping establishments, shops and large centers. According to available information, Muscovites themselves have become more responsible for this requirement, and therefore there have been much fewer violations.

As for the term for transferring people to a remote mode of work, it is known only about the increase in terms until November 29. But, perhaps, workers will have to work in this mode and longer. According to Sobyanin, the greatest infection is observed in the office segment. On such sites, according to him, there can be from 50 to 70 people at a time, and therefore the likelihood of catching a covid there is quite high.

Keeping social distance in such conditions is almost impossible. Accordingly, the lower the density of contacts, the less infections.

In the remote mode of operation, the city authorities do not see any problems, since the enterprises continue to function with the only difference that they have transferred employees to a remote location.

Measures to block social cards in the metro and public transport may also be relevant in the future, in November and December 2020. There is no official data on this matter. We only know that while the lock continues to operate. This is due, according to the explanations of the capital's authorities, with the possibility of citizens to go far from home and contact a large number of people.

As for the increase in the duration of school vacations, nothing is known for sure. But Sobyanin has already announced that the two-week vacation has reduced the number of children infected with coronavirus by almost 2 times. That is, restrictive measures have a positive effect. But, despite this, total quarantine with restrictions on admission to the capital is seen as an extreme measure and an unlikely scenario.

Outcomes

  1. In November, the duration of stay of employees at a remote location was increased, as well as school holidays for students in grades 6-11.
  2. At the same time, the mayor's office declares that total quarantine and restrictions on entry and exit to Moscow will not be introduced.
  3. Sergei Sobyanin claims that in making a decision on this issue, he and his assistants will be guided by the next few weeks. How the epidemic develops will also be important.
