The traditional fall-winter 2009/2010 prêt-a-porte fashion week has begun in New York. 64 fashion houses will present their collections during the week. However, the financial crisis did not fail to remind of itself. The current shows will not be as flashy as usual, and it is rumored that even a famous designer like Marc Jacobs has cut the number of invited guests by two-thirds.

The current fashion week is taking place against the backdrop of an economic depression in the United States, a drop in buying activity and losses of designer houses. Many designers switched to austerity, cut their programs, and some even decided to hold a joint fashion show. In particular, the not-too-famous Mara Hoffman, Sergio Davila and Nicholas K.

However, famous fashion designers also had to think about cutting costs. So, there are rumors that the legendary Marc Jacobs invited 700 people to his show instead of the usual 2000.

Fashion critics believe that the main highlight of this week will be a show dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Barbie doll. A special show featuring models created by the world's most famous couturiers for the occasion will take place on Saturday.

Participation in New York Fashion Week is not cheap: just renting a venue in Bryant Park, where the catwalk takes place, costs more than $ 50,000, and you have to pay $ 100,000 for the services of lighting, hairdressers and makeup artists. Top models demand hundreds of thousands of dollars per week of participation in the show. However, some beauties have already agreed to a reduction in fees.

Of the Russian names in the list of presented couturiers, Alexander Terekhov traditionally appears. This will be the fourth show for the Russian fashion designer in the American fashion capital.
