Naturalness is back in fashion. And this applies not only to makeup and hairstyles, but also to skin care products. Despite the huge selection of various creams, mousses and masks, more and more often you can hear about the seemingly long and completely forgotten miraculous properties of natural oils. And this is not surprising, because the oils do not contain toxic components, do not injure the skin, but in their effectiveness they may well compete with expensive creams.

Let's understand the concepts

First of all, you need to understand that all natural oils are divided into two large groups - essential and base (the latter are also called "base oils").

Essential oils are concentrated aromatic volatiles. They do not dissolve in water, but they dissolve well in alcohol and mix with base oils. Their use in their pure form threatens with burns.

Base oils are often used as a base for adding essential oils, although they can be used on their own. Or make your own blends of several base oils.

And what kind of beast is this?

Base oils are most often cold pressed. Their biochemical properties are close to those of the skin, so they can penetrate into its deep layers and transfer healing substances there. The base oils nourish and moisturize the skin, smooth wrinkles, prevent dehydration, and have anti-inflammatory and regenerating properties. These oils contain vitamins, trace elements and fatty acids (saturated and unsaturated). If the oil contains a lot of saturated fatty acids, then it will be solid already at room temperature, and if there is little, then it will remain liquid even in the cold.

And with what it is eaten?

Still, you should not immediately coat yourself with base oils from head to toe. Although vegetable oils do not contain harmful substances, the skin's reaction to them is difficult to predict in advance.

Do not forget that among the base oils there are those that are considered comedogenic - capable of causing blockage of pores, thereby contributing to the appearance of "blackheads" and inflammation. So they should only be used in mixtures with other oils.

For example, jojoba, hazelnut, avocado oils are considered non-comedogenic, and wheatgrass oil, despite all its usefulness, is best used in mixtures in small quantities.

But, as always, all these tips and tricks are very relative - what categorically does not suit one person can be a real salvation for another. So you still have to resort to trial and error. But - without fanaticism!

From general advice: when using oil, you need to pay attention to its property such as absorbency. It can be poorly absorbed and leave a greasy film on the face, or, on the contrary, it can be absorbed very quickly, which, however, will not prevent it from being comedogenic. If the oil does not spread well, it will be problematic to distribute it over the skin. All of these disadvantages can be eliminated by mixing the oils to obtain an easy-to-apply mixture.

Another way to use oils is to cleanse the skin. Although it may seem strange, such cleansing will be beneficial even if the skin is oily.

When applied to the skin, base oils penetrate deeply into the pores and dissolve grease, after which dust and dirt mixed with sebum can be easily washed off with a damp cotton swab.

To cleanse the skin, you need to take a cotton pad and wet it with hot water, squeeze it thoroughly, apply a few drops of base oil and wipe your face. The procedure must be repeated several times until the cotton wool remains clean. Finally, if your skin is oily and you don't want extra shine, you can wipe your face with a damp disc without oil.

At first, the cleansing procedure should not be carried out every day - three times a week will be enough. And when the skin gets used to such treatment and it becomes clear what is good for it and what is not, it will be possible to carry out the procedures as often as you want.

A bit of specifics

So, how to use oils is clear. Now you need to decide which ones are suitable for your skin.

Jojoba oil is a liquid wax that does not oxidize and practically does not go rancid. It is obtained by cold pressing. This oil is suitable for all skin types. When applied, it forms a semi-permeable film and helps the skin to retain moisture. Jojoba oil nourishes, protects and rejuvenates the skin and contains a sunscreen. It is practically odorless and very well suited not only for skin care, but also for hair.

Avocado oil is rich in vitamins, nourishes and moisturizes well. Especially recommended for dry and aging skin. It relieves irritation, improves elasticity, improves hair structure and is ideal for skin care around the eyes.

Grape seed oil is good for people with oily skin. It is quickly absorbed and does not leave an oily sheen, tightens pores. It is a good moisturizer for all skin types.

Wheat germ oil contains a lot of vitamin E, it is suitable for dry and mature skin and has a regenerating effect, as well as eliminates dryness, smoothes wrinkles and strengthens the walls of blood vessels. Rubbing it in during pregnancy can help prevent stretch marks. It also helps in the treatment of split ends. Wheat germ oil should not be used outside of blends - it is quite "heavy" on the skin.

Sesame oil is suitable for all skin types, eliminates flaking, normalizes sebum secretion, tightens pores and removes irritation. It moisturizes and smoothes the skin and protects it from sun damage. This oil can be used both in mixtures and in pure form.

Apricot kernel oil is recommended for all skin types, especially for sensitive and inflamed skin, it improves skin elasticity and improves complexion, has a softening and moisturizing effect. It can be used even for children.

Peach oil softens and moisturizes the skin well, but it is rarely used in its pure form, usually in mixtures.

Blackcurrant seed oil contains essential fatty acids omega-6 and omega-3 and is used in the treatment of skin conditions. It is suitable for both dry and problem skin.

Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties, protects and regenerates the skin. It also contains a sunscreen. Shea butter is hard and should be melted in a water bath before use. Among other things, this oil has regenerating properties, improves complexion and suits even the most sensitive skin.

Olive oil softens the skin without oxidizing on it, retains moisture, removes flaking and smoothes the surface.

Sweet almond oil is used for all skin types, and is especially good for irritation and flaking. It spreads easily over the skin and absorbs quickly. Has a softening property. Best used in mixtures.

Many people know that castor oil is very beneficial for hair and eyelashes, but it is also used for skin care - only in a diluted form. It helps with cracks, removes bumps, scars, warts and other growths on the skin.

All oils must be protected from direct sunlight. It is advisable to store them in dark glass vials, since in the light, almost all oils oxidize and go rancid very quickly. You should not allow heating and long-term exposure at temperatures above 25 degrees, perishable oils should be stored in the refrigerator.

After all, base oils contain a large amount of vitamins, trace elements and essential fatty acids, and this is beneficial not only for the skin, but also for the body as a whole. Therefore, many oils can and should be taken orally. Flaxseed oil is probably the most beneficial among them. It serves as a source of essential fatty acids, in particular omega-3, and since our diet lacks this component, this oil becomes simply irreplaceable. Pumpkin seed oil - pumpkinol - is also very useful - rich in vitamins and has a beneficial effect on metabolism. Walnut oil boosts immunity, lowers cholesterol and rejuvenates the body as a whole. The benefits of olive oil have been known for a long time, and it is actively used by those who take care of their health.
