Who owns the Colosseum? According to media reports, the head of the Italian Council of Ministers Silvio Berlusconi recently transferred one of the most famous monuments of ancient architecture to the ownership of his friend, businessman Diego della Valle. But of course, the deal was not one-sided. In turn, the entrepreneur will allocate 25 million euros for the restoration of the Colosseum.

Diego della Valle, owner of Tod's, has been granted exclusive commercial rights to the Colosseum for 15 years.

A few months ago, by order of Berlusconi, an antique statue of the god Mars, installed at the entrance to the Prime Minister's residence, was attached with a penis. The missing hand of the goddess Venus, which forms part of the sculptural composition, was also "restored". However, art critics considered this "cosmetic surgery" bad form. They claim that such a restoration is contrary to the aesthetics of the fine arts.

The businessman will also be able to use in Italy and abroad the images of the emperors of the Flavian dynasty. It was during their reign that a monument of ancient Rome was erected and one of the most remarkable structures in the world.

Tod's is also allowed to display its logo on entrances and scaffolding around the Colosseum, Interfax writes.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Italian trade union UIL sent a complaint to the Rome prosecutor's office and the financial guard, as they believe that the deal to transfer the Coliseum della Valle is a violation of the law.

The general secretary of the trade union, Gianfranco Cerazoli, argues that, according to the country's constitution, the Colosseum can only be owned by the state. Cerazoli added that the cost of the contract is low. In his opinion, the Colosseum will bring della Valle a profit of at least 200 million euros, since Tod's will receive the right to use the amphitheater for commercial purposes.
