In English, clean is a person who has recovered from drug addiction or has never had it. In Russian -"

I don’t want to again select weighty and strong words that would still convince those who are sitting with a ready-made portion of opium in a syringe: don’t do this, my friend, it will be bad, painful, hard, empty. As a result of my long experience in this topic, I am almost sure: the same formula applies to drug addicts as to other disadvantaged people: "It is impossible to make them happy against their will." Impossible, you see.

Now the propaganda stream "Let's say no to drugs!" so wide and varied that even a preschooler knows why injecting morphine and smoking marijuana is unhealthy. Everyone has learned that a drug is a slow death, that to cut it out like an appendix, medicine has not yet learned that for an hour of high a drug addict pays for a year of life, etc. Special lessons are held in schools, festivals are organized with the invitation of pop stars who shout from the stands: "Drugs are dumb, people!". They even give out syringes and condoms for free. They try to reach out in any way. Everything for you, dear citizens, just do not inject you, for God's sake!

Imagine what an incredible burst of money is spent annually on all these anti-drug activities, and other projects, important and necessary, are accordingly deprived of this money. But more than money, I feel sorry for the strength. We fight drug addicts, like a mother over an unlucky son, who did not obey her in childhood, and in his youth acted in his own way, and in maturity generally thundered into the colony: forgive, mother, the demon was beguiled. And she, poor, spoke to him in an amicable way, and offered any help, and tore away the best from herself, instead of giving him a good spanking.

Of course, drug addicts cannot be left to their own devices. After all, they are real people, they just lost their way, right? One can blame the state for not providing jobs, not solving the housing problem, paying small scholarships and salaries, etc. But among the patients of narcological dispensaries there are many children of rich parents and wives of rich husbands. According to statistics, the largest percentage of suicide (and drug addiction) is observed in prosperous, economically developed countries: Holland, Denmark, Sweden, where the lion's share of the budget, unlike Russia, is spent on the social sector. It turns out that the Scandinavians lack something for complete happiness. Or maybe, on the contrary, there are too many things?

What is it that potential victims face so irresistible if they think they have no other choice? Problems with family and friends, unhappy love? But they don't die from this, but from drugs - yes. Is life bad? But there is a head and young hands, go, earn money, build your unique destiny. So after all, they don't build, but sit in khazes and get high, pull back, protrude, solve problems quickly and dryly. Easily!

And one more drug addict replenishes the annual report of the WHO, another seller will supply several younger comrades with powder, and then a doctor is working on another one, energy, nerves, and love of relatives are spent on one more. Is this not selfishness?

In Denmark, for example, a drug addict is not only grief, but also a shame for his family. They are rejected by their relatives as criminals. They are buried in common unmarked graves, like our refuseniks. “After all, he brought us so many tears, worries, the treatment cost crazy money,” said the Danish mother of the drug addict, “I turned gray while he was treating him, but he still returned to his potion. Despite all our efforts and all our love, he chose a drug. So why wear flowers to his grave?"

They write and talk about the dangers of drugs all the time, and the percentage of drug addicts is growing and growing. It turns out that we are doing something wrong? But how can a person be made to value his life if he himself does not value it? How to convince the patient to "quit" if he does not want to? There is no instinct more powerful than the instinct for self-preservation. And if in someone this instinct does not dominate over all others, then such indisputable truths as "one must live at any cost", "all bad things will pass", "still will be", for him - an empty phrase. Call me cruel and inhuman, but I am sure that saving young people from drugs is the work of young people themselves, not a team of PR-men and doctors who invent new advertising slogans and invent new drugs.

Meaning of life. Whoever has it will never risk his "clean tomorrow" for a moment's pleasure. Or even relief. Let it be bad, let the whole world betray, let it seem that everything is over and there is only darkness ahead, and only a small injection will help to survive this day and this night - he still will not give up. He will drink, smoke, drink, quarrel with everyone and ban himself within four walls to cry and curse everyone and everything, whatever! - but it won't break. The will to live is too strong in such people. Once upon a time they understood very firmly: THIS CANNOT BE DONE. Like this, no arguments. You can't - that's all. And they will definitely get out. And those who have allowed themselves to relax are usually not.

Here is another attempt to shout out to those who are still "clean" today, and tomorrow will become "drug addicts". Tell yourself once and for all: DO NOT DO THIS. After all, there is a way out of any situation, even the most deaf and blind. It’s trite, but it’s true, I’ve found it a thousand times. One movie hero said: "If you are tired of living, as a last resort, go and hang yourself." And if you think about it: it is always far from the edge.
