London Fashion Week Fall-Winter 2005/6

London Fashion Week has ended. This year, the most significant event in the UK fashion business has become more democratic. For two days, Battersea Park, where Week moved this year, has become a Mecca for lovers of designer labels - at mid-range store prices.

Although traditionally the London Week was considered not so significant compared to the Weeks in Milan, Paris and New York, now the UK is more and more persistently winning back the position of the "fashionable" nation. In 2003, the total turnover of this branch of the industry was 4 billion pounds (about 7 billion dollars). It employs 100,000 people, 70% of whom are women. The desire of English women to look like a cover girl has acquired an avalanche effect. They willingly follow fashion and are not afraid to experiment. Following the general stream of "modernization", this year Fashion Week presented more catwalk shows - 45 in 5 days, inviting 176 designers.

So, what the coming year is preparing for us …

The main colors of the next season Fall / Winter 2005/6 will be navy blue (navy), black, all shades of gray (still the new black) and muted yellow. Red and all its shades act as an accent color: the so-called "baby pink", dull pink, purple, crimson, chili.

This year the male silhouette was at the height of fashion . Oddly enough, blouses, dresses, coats, as if borrowed from a men's wardrobe, have hit the taste of a number of designers at LFW. It is believed that men's clothing looks very sexy on a slender girl when combined with feminine accessories. Navy blue dresses that look like boyfriend shirts should be belted with a fashionable belt (Camilla Staerk). Pinstripe shirts - worn with a bright silk scarf (Margaret Howell). Woolen double-breasted military stiletto jackets and blazers complete with knee-length shorts (John Rocha, Jens Laugensen) - with a scarf or necklace. On the podium, it looked bold and unusual. In real life, it requires impeccable taste in the selection of accessories.

Since LFW was dedicated to the autumn-winter 2005 season, almost none of the designers did without the use of warm, cozy fur in their models, which caused a little excitement, reminding everyone of the confrontation between natural and artificial fur in past years and the public promises of famous fashion models never to wear natural fur. Fur can be worn traditionally - as a sheep's collar on a jacket or as a tweed cape with padding, in combination with a skirt; and unexpectedly, a rabbit or chinchilla jacket (for example, with Swarovski trim, like Julien McDonald's, or with rhinestones). The rabbit vest with a very large hood is a hit for the next season, as predicted by Gharani Strok. As well as a padded coat with a belt and large fur pom-poms (Gareth Pugh).

As already mentioned, the dark blue (nautical) color and all sorts of nautical / sailor emblems will definitely be a hot trend of the season: transverse stripes, a sailor style collar (PPQ), sailor trousers, and as a finishing - threaded rope tape, a characteristic shade of a jersey dress (Jonathan Saunders), even a nautical-style mirror as a decorative detail on the belt and patchwork skirts with rope trim (Robert Cary-Williams. By the way, this designer was so carried away by conveying the impressions of a sea storm, that his models were showing raincoats with wet shoulders).

flying skirts are extremely relevant - thanks to their inexhaustible possibilities: they are combined with almost everything, fit perfectly on any figure, they are good for a feast, for peace, and for kind people. Chiffon (Clements Ribeiro, Central Saint Martins MA) became an absolute favorite on the catwalk when choosing a fabric for this style. But the main thing is the silhouette, the fabric can vary. The main feature of such skirts is a high waist, a hem widening downward, several rows of frills, a length just below the knee (not above) or to the middle of the ankle. Such a skirt can combine details from crinkled silk, linen or even leather. The office alternative is a pleated skirt (Betty Jackson), which on the Battersea Park runway had nothing to do with the unbearably boring pleated hems of pre-retirement civil service workers. An alternative to rest is a gypsy skirt or dress (Ghost). At the Week, similar skirts were combined with a fitted leather jacket, a narrow top, a wide belt or a cardigan.

Finally, large details and deliberately wide cut are in fashion . The coat can be simple cut and tweed, but wide, with very large buttons and pockets (PPQ, Bora Aksu). A fur vest, but so that the hood can fit three heads. The dress is traditional gray - but 3-4 sizes larger. Knitted sweater, cardigan, poncho, cape - baggy and comfortable (with beads or a top trimmed with beads, like Temperley London). Trapezoidal top a la Natasha Rostova, gathered under the bust, balloon sleeves. Wide dress with wide jacket (Preen). All kinds of raincoats and capes as outerwear, as well as a poncho with a belt. Pants flaring downwards, complete with short jacket (Jasper Conran). Over-sized collars on jackets paired with male-cut trousers. Even traditionally female models - skirts and dresses - were baggy. Fashion is a tricky thing, because it requires not so much following the recommendations."

In general, the autumn-winter fashion of 2005 will be marked by a complete relaxed style, since almost absolutely everything is fashionable to one degree or another. The main requirement is originality.

Here are some trendy accents:

- Coat: eye-catching finishes (extra-large buttons and pockets), trapezoidal.

- Cardigan - you just can't do without it in the fall. The cardigan has always done an excellent job with its main function - to wrap and warm, but this year it continues the trend of the past year as an actual piece of clothing in the cold season. It can be mohair, with velvet appliqué, like Nicole Farhi, or very feminine, with bell sleeves, like the duet of Sadi Frost and Jemima French - Frost French.

- Elegant style - a tight-fitting pencil skirt (successfully replacing a boring straight skirt in a business wardrobe) with a high waist (Jasper Conran) and long trousers at a high waist (Julien McDonald).

- Jersey - fashion is definitely making a comeback, so check to see if your mom has a jersey dress from her early days in the closet, which you couldn't throw away. Combined with a leather belt or brooch, cut"

- Tweed - after its surge in popularity in 2003-2004, is still in vogue (Jean Muir).

- Drawing - both naive-childish motifs (like snowmen, penguins and funny faces) and all kinds of summer ideas are in fashion - floral colors (goes well with a cardigan), graphic designs and especially appliqués.

On February 17, the Moscow duet Nina Donis was presented at the Week, about which we wrote in detail. Conceptually, but practical - this is how fashion critics characterized the collection. Nina Donis has re-played the classics of the twentieth century: feather trim, silk ribbons and fringes prevailed in the models, flowing weightlessly over blue cocktail dresses and trumpet dresses. Quilted jackets, loose-fitting black waistcoats, masculine-style trousers - part of the collection was reminiscent of Japanese aesthetics.
