Hundreds of scientific articles have been written about the peculiarities of the smell of men and women. It is reliably known that the amber of male sweat has a stimulating effect on women. There is no reliable data on the inverse relationship. New research has shown that men do smell nicer than women. It's all about the different chemical composition of sweat.

Employees of Firmenich, a Swiss company that researches tastes and smells for the food and perfume industry, conducted a test, the results of which showed that women smell like onions and men smell like cheese.

In a study involving 49 people (25 women and 24 men), volunteers were asked two ways to sweat: either spend 15 minutes in the sauna, or devote the same amount of time to exercise on a stationary bike.

After sweat samples were analyzed, it was found that women's sweat contains a large amount of odorless sulfur-containing substances that, when in contact with bacteria living in the armpits, form thiols, a class of substances that give the characteristic odor to onions.

Tim Jacob, a professor at the University of Cardiff, believes that the human smell depends on various factors. “How you smell depends on what you eat, what you wash, what clothes you wear and what set of genes you have inherited,” the scientist emphasizes.

At the same time, men's sweat differs in chemical composition - it contains a large amount of fatty acids, which, when interacting with bacteria, emit a cheese smell. A team of independent experts who took part in the study noted that they found the smell of female sweat more unpleasant, lenta.ru reports.

Christian Starkenman, who led the Firmenich group of scientists, said the results of this study will help develop new types of deodorants for men and women. However, some scientists believe that the data obtained during the experiment cannot be used outside Switzerland, as people in different countries have different diets.
