Vsevolod Chaplin called legalization of abortion a curse

The question of artificial termination of pregnancy is invariably sharply criticized by the church. Moreover, some representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church believe that the legalization of abortion entails a curse for the country. So, on the eve of the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for Relations between Church and Society (OVTSO), Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin said at a press conference that the legalization of abortion is one of the reasons for the many problems in Russia.

“Abortion is one of the reasons that Russia suffered a curse on itself in the twentieth century. In 1920, our country was the first in the world to allow abortion, then it was the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, and for the entire 20th century it experienced severe disasters,”Chaplin said.

The clergyman also advocates the withdrawal of artificial termination of pregnancy from the compulsory health insurance system.

At the same time, Chaplin explains that a compromise is possible: if a woman has medical indicators for an abortion, as well as if it is about rape or incest.

“The state does not have the right to force people to pay for something that is contrary to their conscience. The doctor may refuse to have an abortion if it is contrary to his conscience; in the same way, people should not take part, through the transfer of funds that they have earned, in what is contrary to their conscience,”says Chaplin.

“They often try to hide the truth that abortion is murder. It is clear that those whose consciences are unclean do not want to hear this truth,”the archpriest emphasized. "It is important for us to ensure that the truth about what happens during an abortion - the murder of a person - spreads among the masses."

According to the priest, society should know that "the unborn baby is already living, experiencing feelings, understanding the danger, striving to live."
