"Chasing tea" is not only pleasant, but also useful, scientists say. According to American experts, drinking three cups of tea a day significantly reduces the risk of stroke. And it doesn't matter which one - green or black - tea you prefer.
Researchers analyzed data from 10 studies in the United States, China, Japan, Finland, Holland and Australia and concluded that three cups of tea a day reduced the risk of blood clots by 21%. According to experts, tea helps lower blood pressure, and the catechins and theanines, which are contained in the drink, improve the functioning of the blood vessels in the brain, writes The Daily Mail.
According to Dr. Catherine Hood of the UK Tea Advisory Panel, the risk of stroke is reduced by consuming both black and green tea. The Stroke Association, in turn, warns that excess doses of caffeine, which is also found in tea, can raise blood pressure levels, so "tea should be consumed in moderation."
It should also be borne in mind that not all teas are created equal. In particular, it was recently revealed that tea bags contain amounts of fluoride that are hazardous to health.
Scientists from the College of Medicine at the University of Washington in St. Louis conducted a study and found that in teabags of ordinary strength, 6.5 parts of fluoride per million were present, which exceeded the permissible concentration of the substance.
According to one of the authors of the study, Professor Michael White, experts are aware of the ability of tea leaves to accumulate fluoride from soil and water. It is necessary to understand how the fluoride content depends on the type of tea and the year of its collection, the professor emphasized.
