There are so many contraceptives in the pharmacy now that it is not easy for even a competent person who is interested in this problem to make a choice. Of course, in any case, it would be better to consult a doctor. But if you decide to choose a contraceptive on your own, give preference to drugs that have a minimum of contraindications and side effects. It would also be nice if such funds could be used by a woman at any period of her life, without exerting a general effect on the body.

What to choose contraceptive? Condom? Yes, and this option is also suitable, but not only that. There is a group of chemical contraceptives, the so-called "spermicides", which can be called universal. They can be used practically without restrictions during the entire reproductive period, but are especially indicated:

  • Teenage girls;
  • In the postpartum period and during breastfeeding;
  • During sexual intercourse that are episodic;
  • If there are contraindications to the use of hormonal oral and intrauterine contraceptives;
  • In order to prevent secondary infection after termination of pregnancy;
  • During premenopause and within 1-2 years (depending on age) after the cessation of menstruation;
  • With the constant use of oral contraceptives in case of skipping or being late in taking the pill;
  • For added protection against sexually transmitted diseases when combined with other contraceptives.

Among spermicides, the most effective and safe remedy is benzalkonium chloride, which is part of Pharmatex, a drug produced in the form of vaginal tablets, cream and suppositories.

Pharmatex is easy to use: you can choose a dosage form in accordance with the type of vaginal secretion. If you need additional lubrication, the ideal option is a cream, with increased secretion - tablets, with normal - suppositories. You can also choose the duration of the action. The pill takes effect in 10 minutes and protects you for 3 hours, the candle - after 5 minutes and its effect lasts 4 hours, and the cream acts immediately after administration and its contraceptive effect will last for 10 hours. Just do not forget that 1 tablet, 1 candle and 1 capsule are designed for only 1 sexual intercourse!

Pharmatex is good because it acts only locally and does not have a systemic effect on the body. Its use does not entail an increase in body weight, varicose veins, the risk of thromboembolic complications, mood changes, dyspeptic symptoms, decreased libido, increased blood pressure and other side effects inherent in some hormonal contraceptives taken by mouth. Pharmatex has no harmful effect on the fetus. This means that you do not have to worry about the health of the unborn child if you become pregnant, but did not yet know about it, while continuing to protect yourself with Pharmatex.

The fact that Pharmatex does not penetrate either into the blood or into breast milk makes it possible to use it during breastfeeding. Pharmatex not only does not affect the beneficial bacteria in the vagina, but due to its antiseptic properties, it reduces the risk of transmission of genital infections and prevents the development of inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs. You can use it as long as you like, and fertility is restored immediately after you stop using it. Pharmatex can be combined with other methods contraception and use as a lubricant.

However, as with any other methods of contraception, contraception with Pharmatex requires careful adherence to the instructions for use: contraceptive reliability can be significantly reduced due to improper use of the drug. Therefore, read the instructions carefully (Pharmatex refers to drugs and requires the same reverent attitude towards itself as other drugs!) And strictly follow the rules:

  • carefully monitor the time it takes for the drug to take effect;
  • introduce a new suppository, pill or cream portion before each intercourse;
  • do not use regular soap and detergents based on it within 2 hours before and 2 hours after intercourse;
  • do not use other vaginal preparations at the same time as Pharmatex - this may lead to a decrease in the activity of the active substance.

With the correct use of Pharmatex, the Pearl index (an indicator of the reliability of the method, determined by the number of failures per 100 women when used during the year) does not exceed 1.
