How to demonstrate the charm of your figure in all its glory? Australian scientists have come up with a funny novelty - invisible fabric. In the near future, they promise to launch an innovation into production and expect that models from an unusual material will be in great demand.
Researchers at the Institute of Photonics and Optical Science at the University of Sydney have simulated the properties of a so-called metamaterial on a computer. You can get thin fiber from it and sew clothes.
During the production of fibers, the shapes of the metamaterial are retained, but they are so strongly contracted that they affect the light waves. The metamaterials that can be produced in this way are ten micrometers in diameter - a thousandth of a millimeter, about ten times thinner than a human hair. However, according to physicists, for the desired result, the fiber must be ten times thinner, writes Utro.ru. Only then will the threads acquire certain optical abilities, and from them it will be possible to weave the material.
In their experiments, the specialists used already known techniques. To begin with, they processed ordinary fiberglass, which are used in power lines. And the second component was the aforementioned metamaterial, which is capable of refracting light. Both substances are melted in a steel cylindrical container until they soften, and then the resulting material is pulled longitudinally, converting the viscous mass into a thin thread.
According to the head of the researcher Alessandro Tuniz, the first attempts to use such a fabric in the garment industry predict unprecedented success. In addition, scientists have found that the optical properties of ultra-thin metafibers are highly dependent on the wavelength of light. So, in red the material would be invisible, but in green it would be quite distinguishable.
According to Tuniz, not necessarily every new invention should be of practical use, it can be used for entertainment as well. For example, such fantastic things can be a hit at discos or beaches, when the swimsuit becomes invisible at will.

Scientists have figured out how to make a person invisible
American scientists say they are close to developing materials that can make humans invisible. Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley have modeled a blanket that does not reflect light, but forces it to bend around objects, making them invisible.
