"Le Grand Bain" (literal translation "Big Bath" or "Big Bath") is a film about 40 years old "children" who are going through a midlife crisis and find the meaning of their lives in synchronized swimming. The heroes seem to strive to drown their loneliness and wash away all their problems in the "Big Bath". It's time to ask yourself the main questions: "What am I doing with my life? Who am I? What can I give this world and my loved ones?"

The main characters in the picture are men with low self-esteem and such different fates. Someone suffers from an inferiority complex, someone is not satisfied with their position in society, and someone simply drinks a lot and is afraid to look soberly at reality when their personal life or business is going to hell.

Men begin to practice synchronized swimming under the not always gaze of Dolphina, a girl who looks confident in herself but secretly attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

This is a film for those who are depressed and do not know where to go next. Almost everyone at least once in their life realizes that they are confused. Often he is afraid to admit to himself that he has become an outsider and a loser for a while, and prefers to live in illusions. However, there is always a way out - and even from protracted despondency

Anything can be a lifeline, but for our heroes it is a synchronized swimming circle. This is a film about brotherhood and mutual aid. And also about how important it is in time to be surrounded by like-minded people who will understand, and not condemn.

But why synchronized swimming? After all, this is more of a female occupation, in which men have no place. And the heroes themselves are not at all distinguished by an athletic physique, do not follow the shape and have a beer belly. In addition, the heroes begin to practice for themselves, at the level of amateurs.

The film's director Gilles Lellouche admits:

“I have always admired people involved in amateur sports. After all, to enter a team, you need to go beyond sports."

According to Lellouche, he is present in each of the characters. All heroes are typical images of our contemporaries, average men with their own problems and pain points.

A pill for hypochondria for the synchronized swimming circle is the chance to take part in the men's synchronized swimming world championship in Norway. The comic and absurdity of the situation is that none of them can swim well, hold their breath and move beautifully in the water.

And at the most crucial moment, the girl-trainer of Dolphin also "breaks down", she goes into prolonged depression and binge. Then the heroes are trained by a woman in a wheelchair, Dolphin's ex-girlfriend and competition partner.

During the viewing, the viewer all the time asks himself the question, and am I sleeping now. After all, the feeling of absurdity and madness is growing: these men really intend to become participants in the championship with their low level of training and sagging bodies.

As a result, after painful training days and long hours of waiting on the road, the heroes perform a real feat - they win in sports competitions. But the victory was brought not by a well-developed technique, athletic form or well-coordinated movements, but by charisma and a touching staging of the number. The audience and the jury were impressed by their sincerity and originality.

A team of actors who played the main characters appeared on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival. Gilles Lelouch claims that during the filming everyone managed to get close and feel like a real family.
