The issue of various economic sanctions against Russia is being discussed very vigorously not only by politicians and financiers. From time to time cultural figures also try to make their contribution. For example, the famous filmmaker Yuri Kara proposed a non-standard, but at the same time, according to him, an effective method of countering US and European sanctions. He believes he needs to act through Hollywood.
Speaking today at a meeting of the expert council of the All-Russian Popular Front, Kara proposed to ban the rental of American films in Russian cinemas. According to the director, this will lead to "then Hollywood will put pressure on (Barack) Obama, and he will lift the sanctions." In addition, such a ban may have the most favorable effect on the domestic cinema. “Among other things, cinemas will have the opportunity to show Russian films,” the director said.
Recall that Yuri Kara once worked on such well-known films as "Tomorrow was the war", "Feasts of Belshazzar, or Night with Stalin", "Thieves in law", "The Master and Margarita".
Director Stanislav Govorukhin made a similar proposal: “It would be nice to limit Hollywood cinema on Russian screens, but not at the expense of Russian cinema, we release about 60 films, but at the expense of films shot in countries with a rich cinematic culture - Turkey, Korea, Iran, Japan, Europe”.
Meanwhile, domestic publications report that one of the most sensational Russian films of the year "Leviathan" by Andrey Zvyagintsev will be released in Russia on November 13. It is clarified that the tape containing profanity in the original was re-dubbed in accordance with the law prohibiting the use of obscene language in films and on television. The world premiere of the film took place in the main competition program of the 67th Cannes International Film Festival, and the film made a strong impression on the audience and the jury. As a result, Zvyagintsev received the Best Screenplay award.
