How to store clothes correctly

Before putting things into storage, completely empty the cabinet from the contents and wipe its walls, shelves and drawers with a damp cloth. After that, conduct a small audit, get rid of torn, worn, faded and too old clothes. Divide the rest of the wardrobe into two groups according to the seasons. Place non-seasonal items neatly on the back shelves or hang them on the bar according to our further recommendations.

Divide the remaining seasonal clothing into several more categories: things that you wear often, only from time to time and on special occasions. Put clothes from the last category in the closet of the first one, followed by clothes from the second category. Place your favorite and frequently worn outfits in accessible and convenient places. In the closet, they can be sorted by color or by product type.

Storage preparation

Never store dirty items in the closet. Before storing clothes for long-term storage, they must be washed, stains removed, missing buttons must be sewn on and sewn up, if necessary. Be sure to keep outerwear and woolen clothes in the fresh air for some time to ventilate, or give them to dry cleaning. Clothing should not be wet during storage, otherwise mold may appear on it, which penetrates deeply into the fabric.

Carefully check the contents of the pockets and remove any foreign objects from them, fasten all buttons (zippers, hooks, buttons). Remove belts and belts, unfasten brooches and pins to prevent rust from getting on your clothes.

The storage area for clothing must be dry and clean. Avoid stacking clothes next to strong-smelling substances, as fabrics, furs and leather are excellent at absorbing odors.

Storing clothes on a hanger

In wardrobes, dresses, skirts, trousers, blouses, jackets and wrinkle fabrics should hang on hangers. There should be a separate hanger for each item; only shirts can be stored in several pieces.

Wrap dresses in special covers for clothes so as not to catch or stain delicate fabric. At the same time, for light-colored items, use covers made of dark fabric, as in others they can turn yellow. Outerwear should be kept in a separate closet or set aside for it in your wardrobe.

Make sure that the hangers are correctly matched to the size of the outfit: clothes that are too large in size will deform and stretch, and on small ones they will sag and wrinkle. It is recommended to store jackets, jackets, coats on wide contoured shoulders. The trousers are folded leg to leg along the arrows and thrown over the bar on a hanger. Skirts are hooked onto the loops on the seamy side of finished products, or fastened with clothespins on special hangers.

Long dresses are best hung over the trouser bar so that their hem does not touch the bottom of the closet, where dust can collect. Keep ties untied by hanging them on a special hanger.

Knitwear and wool

It is not worth storing knitted and woolen things on hangers, especially for a long time, since they stretch, deform and sag under their own weight. After wearing them, it is advisable to roll them up, place them in plastic bags and carefully fold them on a cabinet shelf. Place heavier items at the bottom and lighter items at the top, so they will not be pressed down and wrinkled.

When storing woolen items, pay special attention to protection from harmful insects. Spread out special moth repellent in the storage area.

Fur

Hang furs, as well as sheepskin coats, leather things and down jackets on hangers of the optimal size for them, and they should not hang too tightly so as not to wrinkle and ensure sufficient air circulation. For the same reason, these products do not tolerate plastic packaging - they need to "breathe" to maintain their good appearance. Lack of air leads to yellowing, which cannot be eliminated. The ambient temperature should be low, and the humidity should be sufficient, otherwise the fur will dry out and lose its appearance.

For fur clothes, choose a dark blue fabric or paper cover, put a small bag with moth herbs inside it.

From time to time, it is recommended to ventilate fur clothes, but you should not hang them out in direct sunlight, otherwise the fur will dry out, burn out or turn yellow. Do this in a shady place at a temperature of 10-15 degrees Celsius in dry, clear weather. It is better to store products made of dyed and undyed fur separately.
