Why are we in such a hurry to make a career? Faster, faster, work 24 hours a day, almost spend the night in the office, do not give up heavy business trips, go to work in a semi-faint or flu-like state, push into a crowded subway car … so as not to be late for a second - we take such a start immediately after graduation. We are running towards the 30-year mark, by which we measure our success. Is not it"

7.00 - the alarm clock rings 11 months of the year gets you to work. It is still dark outside - winter, you have breakfast, put yourself in order, get dressed - get ready and jump out into the cold street. With pleasant music (by car) or more underground sounds (by subway) you get to the office. Imperceptibly winter is replaced by spring, then summer. By the time you wake up, the rays of the sun are breaking through the blinds or heavy curtains. And after the summer - autumn. And again winter. And you, like a year ago, jump out of your cozy nest and run to the office, so that with your daily work you will not only earn money for a tasty 12 month (at sea and without a hateful alarm clock), but also methodically move forward step by step along the career ladder, win a strong social position, fill your wallet with banknotes.

Add here periodic refresher courses, almost endless classes in foreign languages, attending "interviews" and changing jobs, 2 years to get a "second higher education", 3-4 years - and letters appear on your business card explaining to an inquisitive reader what not anyone, but a real candidate of sciences. All this (the above-mentioned) complex of measures in recent years has been called the phrase "make a career." "She is so young, and she has already made such a career!" (With envy and admiration) or "In her years, but no family, no career" (with regret and almost sincere compassion).

At the same time, as the practice of the same last 5-6 years shows, the concept of age is a very vague thing. Indeed, what are our years ?! (firstly) and what success it is customary to achieve by what age (secondly).

Things are changing so quickly now! It would seem that not so long ago most of the women workers of the intellectual front by the age of 22 were happily receiving their red and blue diplomas of complete higher education, by the age of 25 they were workers (wheels and cogs), ordinary specialists of various departments and departments, as well as part-time wives and mothers of a marvelous firstborn. By the age of 30-33, women were turning into leading specialists, some defended their dissertations and gave birth to a second child and / or entered into a second marriage. By the age of 45, you could become the head of a department or department, in which you honestly devoted almost your entire adult life. Exactly at 55 years old, the labor collective saw off their heroine "on a well-deserved rest", and there the grandchildren arrived. As the saying goes: "The river of oblivion: every day, month, year is similar to the previous one." By the way, isn't that why it was believed that the school years were wonderful, and the institute time was the most cheerful and joyful in life.

It was boring, boring. But now life is just fun. After graduating from the institute, not so many people work in their immediate specialty, the presence of an academic degree does not at all mean that the owner has exclusively scientific interests, professional life presents so many surprises and new opportunities every day that it takes your breath away and your eyes run wild. At some point, having chosen a free minute, you try to summarize what you have achieved, compare yourself and your successes with your girlfriends and girlfriends. I've also looked at my Russian and German friends and compared the two groups. So what happened?

Still, at about 22 years old, we become the happy owners of higher education. This is where the similarity with the old days ends. In most cases, one higher education for a modern lady turns out to be insufficient, therefore, after working for 2-3 years, many take on the second. If you work in law or economics, getting a degree is a good idea. Newspaper advertisements such as "Elite Staff" state that candidates for a well-paid job in a decent company should be fluent in English at the very least, and overseas training is highly encouraged. So feel free to add 5-8 years for additional training and 5 years to get good experience, then we get 30-35 years - the age to which you can apply for a place from the very "Elite personnel". And there, as the card falls, and you yourself and "distribute"! So my classmates-classmates in Russia are now busy with gaining invaluable professional experience and at the same time obtaining additional education.

At the same time, for example, in Germany people enter universities at a very conscious age, at about 20 years of age. They study for a long time, at least 5 years, but very few people manage to meet this deadline. By the way, choosing a future profession at 20, and not at 16, you better imagine life in general, work in particular (yes, you just know yourself better), so you no longer have to get a second higher education. A lot of people do the so-called "foreign semesters", i.e. 1-2 semesters are spent at a foreign university, which at the same time greatly improves the knowledge of a foreign language. Some time is taken away by short-term and long-term practices in the specialty, which last from 1 month to a whole semester: you can earn extra money and gain some experience. Lawyers and teachers also spend 2 years on a referendariat - compulsory work in various legal instances (lawyers) or schools (teachers) and only after that they receive a full-fledged diploma. Here they are the same 30 years from which the modern career actually starts.

So, little by little, our career paths and paths are approaching European standards, and, therefore, the criteria for assessing our own success need to be changed.

I don’t know about you, but it’s funny for me to hear about some kind of "midlife crisis" that comes at the age of 30! If we take into account that by the age of 30 you have just finished all your education, then the "time for summing up the intermediate results" needs, as in other countries, to move 15 years to the 45-year border. I also want to note that, according to my observations, long-term study not only develops the mind, but also prolongs youth better than any anti-wrinkle creams.

So now, as you approach your 30-year mark and leave credits and exams behind, you can build your success on a solid foundation. This is just the beginning!
