Annunciation

The Orthodox Church calls this festival the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos and refers to major events. The holiday is associated with the story of how the Archangel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary that she conceived the future Savior. This event is a symbol of the redemption by mankind of the fall of the first woman - Eve.

The Annunciation became an official church celebration only in the 6th century, although the first mentions of it date back to the 2nd century. The Holy Virgin Mary was brought up in a holy temple and promised God to remain blameless. When the archangel appeared to her and told the blessed news of the great miracle - the immaculate conception of Jesus, she lived in Nazareth with her husband Joseph.

On this day (April 7), believers visit churches, pray, give alms, and also do charity work.

Palm Sunday

The Christian name for this celebration is the Lord's Entry into Jerusalem. It also refers to major holidays and is dedicated to the story of the appearance of Christ in the holy city of Jerusalem right on the eve of his martyrdom. On this day, Christians usually visit church, consecrate willow and willow branches, in order to then decorate their home iconostasis.

The date of Palm Sunday is different every time and depends on the Easter holiday. The celebration is celebrated a week before. That is, on the sixth Sunday of Lent. This year the date falls on April 17th.

Easter

This is the most important holiday for Orthodox Christians. Its full name is Bright Sunday of Christ. Historically, this day is timed to coincide with the miracle of Jesus' resurrection after the crucifixion.

This is a rolling holiday, it does not have a specific fixed date. Finding out what date is Easter in 2022 is not difficult. It is celebrated in accordance with the lunisolar calendar. It is necessary to remember the day of the vernal equinox, then mark the full moon, and then the next Sunday after it. This will be Easter day. Usually this period falls on the dates from April 4 to May 8.

In 2022, Easter falls on April 24th.
