Peter's fast was established in honor of the memory of the apostles Peter and Paul. Before the beginning of the fast, every Christian studies the daily food calendar for the laity and learns what to eat during the fast in order to make the right menu.

Petrov fasting rules

Fasting is the purification of the body and soul, so the Orthodox will have to refrain from certain types of food, and also not to commit sinful acts:

  1. You cannot eat dairy products, meat, eggs during fasting.
  2. You are not allowed to smoke or drink alcohol except on Saturdays, Sundays and Church holidays when a little wine is allowed.
  3. During Lent, you should refuse to attend entertainment events, and celebrate all holidays in a close family circle, but without dancing, songs and noisy feasts.
  4. According to the canons of the church, you cannot marry.
  5. It is forbidden to guess and perform magic rites.
  6. You need to restrict TV viewing and use of social networks.
  7. Spouses should refrain from intimacy and conceiving a child.

Observing fasting, every believer should not only limit himself in food, but also pray more, attend church, do good deeds and, most importantly, grow spiritually.

Peter's fast can last either 8 days or 6 weeks - it all depends on the date of the celebration of Easter. In 2020, it starts on June 15th and ends on July 11th.

Petrov post - food rules

Peter's fast differs from Great Lent in that it is not so strict. The daily meal calendar for laymen allows, for example, on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as on weekends, to eat fish. On Monday you can cook hot food, but no oil. On Wednesday and Friday - eat only vegetables, fruits, nuts, honey, bread and drink water. These are days of dry eating.

On Peter's Lent, namely on July 7, a church holiday falls - the Nativity of John the Baptist. On this day, no matter what day of the week it falls, it is allowed to eat fish and hot food with butter.

The very feast of the apostles Peter and Paul falls on July 12 and is not included in the fast. But if it falls on Wednesday or Friday, then such days will be fast, but hot food and fish are allowed.

Only monks are obliged to observe all the canons of the church; for the laity, the daily food calendar can be relaxed. So, in the presence of diseases, you can eat what is prohibited during the fast, for example, dairy products.

It is impossible to strictly limit the food of children, in their diet should be both meat and milk, but they can be given less sweets. Fasting breaks are also provided for military personnel, for those who travel a lot or are engaged in hard physical labor. And also for those who are undergoing treatment in a hospital or in prison.

In order not to harm your health, it is better to consult a doctor before starting a fast, and in order not to violate church rules, consult a spiritual mentor.
