It is convenient to put many products in the freezer for long-term storage, but there are some that are very harmful to frost. Freezing can cause many problems, from ruining the texture and flavor of the food to diminishing its health benefits.

Some food cannot be placed in the freezer, even for a short time. Below is a list of foods for which frost should be prohibited.

1. Vegetables with a high water content

Many vegetables can be safely frozen without fear of harming them or yourself. But you must avoid freezing vegetables with a lot of water. When you defrost them, they risk turning into a soft, shapeless mass with an altered taste. Therefore, onions, radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower and other vegetables with a high water content should never be frozen.

2. Dairy products

Dairy products also made the list. Everything - from soft cheeses and yoghurt to milk and cottage cheese - can only be stored in the refrigerator. Liquid foods curl when defrosting, while soft foods (such as cheese) will not change their texture in the most pleasant way. For a short time, you can put only hard types of cheese in the freezer; they will hardly change when defrosting.

3. Fruit

Fruits can only be frozen if you plan to mix them in a shake or smoothie blender after defrosting. Otherwise, do not expect frozen fruit to deteriorate, changing in texture after being in the freezer.

4. Eggs

Raw or boiled, eggs are in any case on the list of foods prohibited from freezing. Fresh eggs in the freezer will simply crack, while boiled eggs, when thawed, will turn into something that looks more like rubber. If freezing is unavoidable, separate the whites and yolks in raw eggs and freeze them in separate containers.

5. Lettuce

Cabbage, lettuce, and any green lettuce should also not be placed in the freezer if you want to keep their texture intact after defrosting. The leaves will not only wilt quickly, but also greatly lose their flavor.

6. Fried food

Fried foods - from potatoes to chicken - become just a wet mass after thawing. However, this is still fixable - they can be heated on the stove or in the oven. But the initial taste of such products will still be lost.

7. Sauces

Sauces and mayonnaise must not be frozen. As a rule, when defrosting, they curl up, making them completely useless. Sauces containing flour or cornstarch are especially sensitive to freezing, but you will not get the best results by freezing cream or egg whites.

8. Carbonated drinks

Soda should not be frozen, keeping in mind that liquids expand when they solidify. The carbon dioxide responsible for the bubbles will go away after freezing, and the taste of a thawed drink can change dramatically.

9. Thawed food

Freezing food that has already been defrosted is a big health risk. Re-freezing promotes the growth of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. Therefore, if you have already thawed the food, try to cook it anyway.
