There are few church holidays in December 2021, but each of them is of great importance. Major church events in December

Introduction to the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos

The holiday is twelve, not rolling. According to the church calendar, it is celebrated on December 4. The story goes that the parents of the future Mother of God were barren. They did not despair and prayed, promising, if a child was born, to give it to the service of God.

The Virgin Mary was born. When the girl was three years old, her parents took her daughter to the Jerusalem Temple. The high priest met her within the walls of the temple.

More than a dozen steps led to the doors of the temple, but the little girl climbed them on her own.

From that time on, she was raised by the ministers of the church.

St. Nicolas day

This celebration is dedicated to the memory of the repose of St. Nicholas. He is one of the most revered saints in the Slavic Orthodox Church.

In most countries, the image of St. Nicholas became the basis for the creation of New Year's folklore characters - Santa Claus and Santa Claus. In countries where the majority of the population is Catholic, on the night before this holiday, parents put gifts for children by the bed.

A similar tradition was in the past in the Slavic settlements. They celebrated this day in the old style on December 6th. A group of guys headed by Nikolai went home with congratulations.

In the past, obedient children received gifts, and bad ones received sticks as a warning.

Days of fasting

Also, many are interested in the date of the Nativity Fast. It lasts throughout the month. The first day of the month is December 4th, the last day is the 31st.

The main diet during the fast, preceding the Nativity of Christ, consists of vegetables, fruits and cereals. If you want protein foods, you can eat fish. Meat, dairy products and eggs are prohibited.

In some cases, indulgences are given. If a person is sick, fasting can be less strict.

During this period, it is allowed to drink alcohol, but only on weekends or on church holidays.
