"Love and Doves" is a cult movie directed by Vladimir Menshov, which leaves a deep mark on the soul. This is one of the few Soviet films that you want to watch. On January 7, 26 years have passed since the moment Love and Doves was first shown on a wide screen, but the viewer might not have seen this gorgeous picture. Menshov himself frankly told about this.

Before launching the film, it was necessary to show it to the artistic council. At that time, critics rated Vladimir's picture low, accusing him of bad taste and overkill. At the very least, the director was required to remount the film, removing all scenes with the use of alcoholic beverages. Then there was anti-alcohol propaganda.

When Menshov refused to remove the personnel "unwanted" by the leadership, he was simply removed from the director's position and deleted from the credits. Editing the movie was entrusted to another person who pored over it for 2-3 months.

At that time Menshov suffered greatly. His colleagues at Mosfilm made fun of him, but the director was really bad at that moment. He drank a lot, smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day, slept little.

Chance helped. Just as once Menshov's film "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears" Brezhnev liked, so this time "Love and Doves" came to the liking of the party leadership. As a result, the film came out without editing. Even the copy that Vladimir made in the heat of the moment was not useful, fearing that the initial film would simply be destroyed.

In 2021, it will be 40 years since the first work on the film "Love and Doves" began. Vladimir was prompted to create a film masterpiece by the play of the same name with Nina Doroshina in the title role, which premiered in 1981.

By the way, Menshov's wife, Vera Alentova, was supposed to play the role of the homewrecker, but she was busy filming another project.
