Anna Dubovitskaya: “Everything is just beginning”

After the birth of the child, the ex-soloist of the "Brilliant" group Anna Dubovitskaya decided to start life from scratch and do what she had been interested in all her life - clothing design. In the spring of 2013, Anna made her debut with her fall-winter collection, which was the first step towards her dream. “Cleo” met with Anna and learned what it's like to be a young mother, a fashion designer and find time for yourself.

- Are you friends with the Internet?

- I'm addicted to the Internet! Recently I was rushing along the Moscow Ring Road and caught myself thinking that I was on Instagram. I always have a phone in my hands.

- What is an unacceptable luxury for you?

- Rest for 2 months in a row, otherwise the production will simply be blocked.

Anna, tell us why, after all, fashion design, because you have an economic education, extensive experience in a dance team (Anna received a higher economic education and studied at the Street Jazz dance school - ed.) and four years in the "Brilliant"?

Anna: I have always envied people who know from the fifth grade that they will be doctors, for example. It didn't work out for me - I was in search for a very long time and now I finally found myself and I feel at ease.

All four years that I sang in "The Brilliant", I was carrying in my head my idea, which was born with the birth of my child. Now the main thing for me is that I am independent, I am my own mistress. I have assembled my team - a small close-knit team that helps to translate my ideas into reality. And in the spring I presented my first collection.

- Did you have a nickname as a child?

“I’m trying to remember… no, it wasn’t.

- Are you an owl or a lark?

- I am an owl, it seems to me that all creative people are owls.

- How do you relieve stress?

- I try to occupy myself with some kind of physical labor: washing the floors, cleaning.

- What turns you on?

- Powerful emotions.

Did you feel anxious, afraid of negative reviews?

Anna: Naturally, I was worried, but I was sure that I would like my collection. If I'm not sure about something, I redo it until I'm happy with the result.

You have chosen leather as the main material of the collection, why?

Anna: I love leather! Leather will be in all my collections. It will never go out of style and has amazing texture. I even plan to create products from eco-leather and sew men's shirts from very thin leather.

- Which animal do you associate yourself with?

- With a fox. I even have a collection of foxes, I've been collecting them for a long time.

- Do you have a talisman?

- I have a talisman, but I will not say which one. I can only say that he came to me by chance and is now constantly with me.

- What melody is on your mobile phone?

- Standard ringtone for iPhone.

- What is your psychological age?

- I'm not a wise woman at all, so maybe 20 years old.

How did it happen that men's clothing was the inspiration for the creation of the women's collection, and who is she - your heroine?

Anna: There is nothing sexier than a woman in men's clothing. I tried to convey the purity of lines, laconicism, although there are several costumes in the collection that are very similar to those for men. The main thing is to see the woman, not the outfit. My heroine … I'll just name two women - Ingeborga Dapkunaite and Oksana Fandera.

How do you combine your work and family, and how do you relax?

Anna: Combining work and family is now much easier for me than it was before, since I myself manage the whole process and can afford to spend the weekend with my family, knowing that then I will have to do a little more at work. The only drawback is that now I practically do not earn money - all the money has to be spent on production, my employees and the creation of new models.

My daughter lives abroad, on vacation I mainly fly to her.

- What is your favorite aphorism?

- I have a lot of tattoos with statements, probably one of them: "You need to stand as close to the edge as possible, because from the edge you will see what you will not see from the middle."

Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years, still a designer?

Anna: Yes, still a designer. But I would like not only to embody my creative ideas, but also for my interest to turn into a real business that generates income. I hope to create a large production and become not only a designer, but also a businesswoman.

And in conclusion: how will you surprise us in the spring collection?

Anna: I can't say anything yet - it's a secret. I will only say that I took some risk, I plan to do something that no one else has done.
