The appearance of cockroaches in an apartment is a bad sign, because no one wants to have such a neighborhood. And in order to get rid of them once and for all, you must first find out the reason for their appearance.
Signs of cockroaches
In addition to "face-to-face" contact, there are several less obvious signs that indicate the appearance of these insects in the house:
- Black spots. This is what the waste products of cockroaches look like. Insects can leave them everywhere: on the wallpaper, kitchen table, dishes, and so on.
- Specific smell. Those who have come across cockroaches at home at least once in their lives understand the smell they smell.
- Clutches with eggs. Most often they are located in crevices and corners. The appearance of eggs means that pest control will have to be carried out twice, because it is not enough to get rid of the "parents" themselves, then it will be necessary to deal with their offspring.
Reasons for the appearance
- Food. Of course, the main reason for the appearance of these insects is the abundance of food, especially stored outside the refrigerator. They can be content even with crumbs and food from an open trash can, therefore, in order not to remove them later, it is better to clean up thoroughly.
- Water. A leaking tap or just small puddles in the kitchen or bathroom are also very suitable for cockroaches.
- Neighbors. In some cases, it is not enough to follow the cleaning rules yourself, especially if the neighbors do not. If it is impossible to agree with them, and cockroaches all appear and appear, despite all the measures taken, then it is necessary to seal the dwelling on its own, that is, to eliminate any cracks and crevices through which insects can make their way.

Effective remedies
Since cockroaches are not a new problem, then, of course, there are folk remedies that help fight them. These include:
- Boric acid. For cockroaches, it is the strongest poison that, getting into the digestive tract, paralyzes their nervous system. You need to use powdered acid, it is sold in every pharmacy. The powder can be mixed with cockroach "snacks": mashed potatoes, yolk or sugar, and when the insect feeds on it, the acid will enter its digestive tract. In addition, you need to scatter the powder along the paths of these insects, because if their paws get dirty, they will begin to clean them, and then the acid will also enter their stomach.
- Freezing. If the temperature drops below +7 degrees, then cockroaches stop multiplying and slow down their activity. But you can use this method only in winter, leaving the door wide open for the day. If you manage to lower the temperature in the premises to -15 or -18, then you can say goodbye to cockroaches.
- Ammonia. It must be diluted in water used for wet cleaning. Cockroaches do not like this smell, so they will try to leave the room treated with alcohol as soon as possible.
- Trap. This method can only be used if not many cockroaches have been seen. You can do it yourself, at home. To do this, you need to take a jar with a wide neck, grease it from the inside with oil or petroleum jelly and crumble the bait to the bottom (this can be bread crumbs, cookies or regular sugar). Cockroaches will smell "yummy", will go into the jar, but they will not be able to get out of there, as they will stick. You can also use a regular plastic bottle as a trap, from which you must first cut off the top. You can destroy pests by pouring boiling water into the trap or simply using an insecticide.
In addition to folk methods, today there are a huge number of chemicals that also allow you to get rid of pests once and for all. They come in the form of sprays, special lamps, traps, crayons, and so on. The main thing when using these products is to follow the instructions exactly and do not forget about protection for the eyes, hands and face.
Prophylaxis
In order to get rid of cockroaches once and for all on your own, it is necessary not only to poison them, but also sometimes to carry out prevention so that insects do not return after a while. It is very easy to do prophylaxis in a private home, but in an apartment building, for greater efficiency, it is necessary to agree in advance with the neighbors so that pest control is carried out simultaneously.
After all, it may happen that despite the persecution of insects and timely preventive measures, they will return to the apartment from neighbors who did not want to neutralize cockroaches.
Here are some activities to keep cockroaches away from your apartment:
- Cleaning. Of course, you need to clean up all the time, because putting things in order is exactly what cockroaches do not like. It is advisable to store food in a special sealed container, always remove crumbs from the table on time, hide pet food, and so on. Once every couple of months, it is necessary to revise the boxes with dishes and cereals, because these are the favorite places for cockroaches.
- Rubbish. It is necessary to take out the garbage every day; you cannot keep it in one place for too long. Also, you do not need to store packages at the door, because all this can ultimately lead to the appearance of cockroaches.
- Leaks. Without food, insects can last up to a month, but without water they cannot hold out for a couple of days. Therefore, it is necessary to block their access to it, checking the pipes and the sink for leaks just in case.
