The first time … no, the second time for the first year!
The first time … no, the second time for the first year!

According to my observations, the demand for a second higher education is growing by leaps and bounds. Moreover, not only potential applicants, but also employers show interest in it, because quite often today you can find the phrase in vacancy announcements:"

In principle, this is not surprising. After all How often do we choose our future profession, preparing to enter after school? Just out of idle curiosity, but out of love for art, so to speak, I conducted a small opinion poll among students receiving just a second higher education.

And, I got these results:

At the first place the option was firmly settled: "When I entered, it was a promising specialty, such specialists were paid a lot of money and a great future was shining for me." This is how most school graduates choose their profession, especially after the beginning of Perestroika. But in five years of study at the university, a lot can change. And economists or lawyers, who are in demand at the time of admission, can fill the whole country by the end of their studies. And you have to go to work somewhere, hoping to move on to work in your specialty later.

On second place I put two answers at once, which are very similar: "There were absolutely no ideas about choosing a specialty" and "I had no chance to enter the specialty for which I wanted, so I had to choose from the rest." Indeed, the main problem of school graduates is that it is very difficult for them to assess and determine their purpose in this life, to understand which particular road, from the great multitude, is destined to go personally for them. How many times I have not had a chance to communicate with eleventh graders, definitely and with burning eyes, only one could answer the question about the future profession. The rest shrugged their shoulders and mumbled something unintelligible.

Third place takes, in general, a similar, but somewhat neglected version. "When I entered, I was very interested in this profession, but in the process of studying I was completely disappointed in it." And it so happens that disappointment comes in the process of working in this coveted specialty. After all, all the subtleties and specifics of work in a university cannot be learned, and student romance suppresses all the doubts that sometimes arise.

Surprisingly, but today the answer: "Parents insisted", I met me only once. Which cannot but rejoice, because this suggests that modern youth is becoming independent, learning to build their lives without prompting from the outside.

And if we add to this the difficulties with employment, which are present throughout the territory of the former Soviet Union! After all, the overwhelming majority of employers are not ready to take on serious, appropriately paid positions of fresh graduates of universities. To get a job, at best, with enough luck or connections, you can be an assistant or secretary in the department corresponding to the specialty, with a scanty opportunity for professional growth in the future. Of course, there are also happy examples. But most people are still unable to achieve their goals.

So over-age students are storming admissions committees in the hope of rewriting their fate. Therefore, it is not surprising if you decide to take such a serious and responsible step as getting a second higher education.

So, what you should and should not expect from repeated training.

First of all, let's look at the admission process. In most universities, it takes place simultaneously with the entrance examinations of the main department. In some, at the end of summer. Therefore, in order not to get into a mess, clarify this point in advance. Further, first of all, you will need to provide originals and copies (certified by a notary or not - depends on the university) of the following documents:

1. Passports.

2. Diploma of first higher education and extracts with grades. Moreover, if you received your first education, say, in Ukraine, and you want to get the second in a Russian university, then you will also be required to have a certificate of conformity for your diploma (that is, you will have to go through the so-called procedure for recognizing foreign documents on higher education). I don't know how in other cities and countries, but in Moscow this rule works exactly. The certification is carried out by the Ministry of Education (in Moscow, this department is located on Shabolovskaya street, 33), in time it takes from one day to a month (it depends primarily on the country where you graduated from the first university). The procedure is paid, and the price depends on the urgency of its implementation. For certification, you will need two notarized copies (respectively, with a notarized translation) of higher education documents (diploma and extract) and a passport, as well as fill out an application.

3. Labor book.

4. If you are married, and especially if the diploma was issued in a maiden name, a marriage certificate will be required.

5. Pension card details.

6. Photos in the amount of 4 pcs.

7. On the spot, you will need to fill out an application and a questionnaire (sometimes a short biography is required).

8. Depending on the chosen specialty, you may need a recommendation from work and a mini-portfolio.

After collecting all the documents, an interview awaits you. Be prepared for what a real competition can expect! If the number of applicants exceeds the number of places for admission, then a formal interview can become almost an oral exam with tricky questions. In any case, especially if you are entering a humanitarian specialty, for example, journalism or law, prepare an answer to the question of what led you to the decision to receive a second education in this specialty and a short story about your work experience. In general, they can ask about anything. Both about the first higher education, and about political views, the last book read, and the assessment of sociological processes in modern society. Questions are not excluded from the area of the specialty for which you are actually applying. Stay confident, don't panic at the first difficulty. You are an adult and mature person, you may have your own views and beliefs, so be confident in expressing them. The main thing is not to get lost and not mumble "I don't know …".

One friend of mine, when asked to assess the current political situation and make a forecast for the upcoming elections, boldly stated that she was not interested in politics, believed that in our country there were no serious politicians worthy of attention, but only intriguers, and that she was more interested in ordinary people and sociological processes. happening in our society, and started talking about the problem of abortion. And she entered successfully.

After admission, study awaits you directly.

I want to upset you right away, it's better to forget about a friendly group with which you can go to discos on weekends, and gather at someone's house or in the country on holidays. More precisely, do not tune in to this option. It is possible, but the likelihood that your group will have many unmarried and not burdened with life problems girls and boys is very small. Most of your classmates will work, be married and even have children. And this is the minimum of free time. Therefore, prepare for the fact that you will get to know most of the group during the session. Although one of my friends, who entered the TV journalism department, was lucky: most of her group turned out to be very young and energetic, and once a month they have a great rest in clubs. Another, who decided to conquer the heights of accounting and auditing, ended up in the company of women after forty years who were concerned about personal affairs, who practically did not communicate with each other, coming to the university only to gain new knowledge, and very reluctantly gave lectures to rewrite.

Difficulties can arise even if you work and simply physically cannot attend some classes. Not every university is ready to draw up an individual lesson plan for you, and the more eminent it is, the higher the likelihood of encountering such a problem. The teachers themselves, although they like to work more with students receiving a second education (which is not surprising, because such a step is much more mature than choosing a profession after school, most students already have work experience and understand perfectly what they are talking about teacher), but few will turn a blind eye to missed classes. Yes, and at the second higher education you will be called at the beginning of the pair and put down tests according to the principle "I remember, I went!" or "This is the first time I see who he is?" In this situation, I can only advise you to personally approach the teacher whose classes you are forced to skip, and in a personal conversation explain the situation, find out at what hours you can attend his lectures with other groups, what literature you should read additionally … In a word, show concern and deepest interest in the subject.

Yes, and you have practically no slack for the fact that you have to work hard and the time to read the necessary books and cram new material, no one will do. Students "from the second highest", perhaps, are loved more, but they are also asked accordingly, how about adult conscious people.

But, in any case, the wolf is not so terrible as it is painted. And the opportunity to extend your student years is worth a lot (not in terms of tuition fees!). And all the difficulties, you yourself will not notice how they will be settled. And all of them will more than pay off with the opportunity to change their lives and fulfill an old dream. So don't hesitate, do it! Not a feather to you, not a feather!
