The 66th American Television Emmy Awards took place tonight in Los Angeles. Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones were the main contenders for the title of Best Drama Series. The latter was announced in 19 nominations, but the series created by Vince Gilligan turned out to be the owner of the coveted statuette.

Breaking Bad was able to bypass shows like True Detective, Mad Men, Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey. However, the series' awards did not end there. Bryan Cranston, who stars as chemistry teacher Walter White, received an Emmy Award for Best Actor, and two supporting awards went to Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn.

In 2013, Breaking Bad was also named Best Drama Series.

American Family was named Best Comedy Series for the fifth year in a row. Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, won the Best Comedy Actor award. The best actress was Julia Louis-Dreyfus - she received a statuette for the lead role in the series "Vice President".

Benedict Cumberbutch won Best Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie for his work on Sherlock: His Final Vow. Best Actress in this category was Jessica Lange for her role in American Horror Story: Sabbath.

Unfortunately, the series "Game of Thrones", so popular and beloved by many, never received the coveted statuette. But the creators and actors still have a whole year to work hard and catch up at the next Emmy Awards.
