Yesterday, November 6, 2020, Mikhail Mikhailovich Zhvanetsky, the great writer, ironic philosopher and satirist, passed away. The biography of Mikhail Zhvanetsky is a cut of an entire era, from the war years to our time.
Childhood, adolescence
In a Jewish family of doctors Emmanuil Moiseevich and Raisa Yakovlevna Zhvanetsky, a boy Mikhail was born in 1934. M. Zhvanetsky was born in Odessa, but his early years were spent in Tomashpol (Vinnytsia region). My father was the chief doctor of the hospital, my mother was a dentist.
The medical institution was located in a former estate, the apartment of the Zhvanetsky was also here, as the writer later recalls, "I grew up among bandages and blood." I rode a tricycle around the wards, the sick often looked after the little boy, since the parents were busy at work.
When the war broke out, my father was drafted into the army as a military surgeon. Mikhail and his mother were evacuated to Central Asia. After the liberation of Odessa, in 1944 the family returned to the city.
The boy had an inquisitive mind, observation. He subconsciously absorbed everything he saw, felt the color of the street, the Jewish courtyard, the people around him, which later became the basis of his creative activity.
Zhvanetsky studied at a school for boys (No. 118), then entered and graduated with honors from the Odessa Institute of Marine Engineers with a degree in crane mechanics. A young guy, a Komsomol organizer conducted not only social activities, but also actively participated in amateur performances. Even then, the first monologues were written.

He was the organizer of the student theater of miniatures "Parnassus", where he himself read miniatures written by him. The talent of the artist-humorist manifested itself already in his youth. Mikhail was able not only to create satirical essays, but skillfully convey them to the viewer in his characteristic manner. The Parnas Theater has become quite popular in Odessa.
Around this period, the aspiring artist met Roman Kartsev and Vladimir Ilchenko, performed with them on stage, wrote reprises and monologues for them.
A turning point in creative destiny
After graduation, Mikhail got a job at the port of Odessa as a mechanic for large cranes. He decided to stay in the city, since a red diploma gave him the advantage of choice. According to the writer's recollections, work in the port of Odessa, observation of people gave the material, which later took the form of satirical monologues.
The turning point in the biography of Zhvanetsky, which determined his fate, was a letter and royalties from A. Raikin. The master of Soviet humor took the monologues written by him into work. According to Mikhail's recollections, he read the letter while unloading coal, sitting on a heap of "black gold".

A. Raikin had a rest, gave concerts earlier in Odessa. Roman Kartsev had already worked for him, and he asked the pop master to get acquainted with Zhvanetsky's satirical essays, and organized a meeting for them in 1963.
The turning point in the life of three friends (Zhvanetsky, Kartsev and Ilchenko) was the move to Leningrad (1964). Mikhail was included in the staff of the A. Raikin Satire Theater as head of the literary department. By this time, the repertoire of the master of pop humor already had many monologues written by M. Zhvanetsky.
Through their work in the theater of satire, all three friends became famous. And in 1969 the premiere of a program called "Traffic Light" took place, all the monologues for which were written by Zhvanetsky. Separately, for the duet Kartsev and Ilchenko, about 300 miniatures were written, the most famous "Avas", which was often played on TV.
Today it is difficult to imagine that famous performers and authors received in Soviet times not enough money to satisfy their desires. M. Zhvanetsky, together with Kartsev and Ilchenko, "earned money" on the side, performing with concerts. Although their repertoire included monologues that A. Raikin did not take into the repertoire, he still did not like it. This was the reason for the departure of all three friends from the Satire Theater.
They began performing independently, having signed a contract with Rosconcert. The production was staged and directed by Zhvanetsky. Later, for some time, Mikhail worked at the Molodaya Gvardiya publishing house, an artist of the spoken genre at the Odessa Philharmonic.
M. Zhvanetsky began his independent creative activity in 1980, when he got a job at the Moscow Theater of Miniatures as an assistant director.
About creativity
The author himself presented his work as a free verse without rhyme (free verse). His works are imbued with a sense of humor. The author was able to grasp the main thing, burning. In Zhvanetsky's monologues there is an inner melody, a fantastic play on words with which he plays, juggles.
Through the satirical view of the world, a philosophical attitude to life and its problems seeps through. The master's ability to convey the essence of what is happening in a few phrases is striking, and to convey the grief of what is happening with ironic sarcasm to the viewer.
“A person has no death. The greats all died … and nothing … thanks to them - there is life, and medicines, and bridges, and books … - a quote from the monologue of Mikhail Zhvanetsky at the jubilee concert in honor of the 85th anniversary in the PI Tchaikovsky Hall.

Personal life
Looking at Zhvanetsky on stage, one cannot say that he is a "damn handsome" man. He himself was ironic about this. He wrote that approaching the mirror, I would like to see a tall handsome man with big eyes, lush hair, athletic build, but every time there is disappointment.
Nevertheless, he attracted women like a magnet with his infectious temperament, sparkling humor, pronounced charisma, generosity. He has several official and de facto marriages, five children.
The last wife is 32 years younger than the satirist. Most of the marriages broke up because of the "windy" nature of Zhvanetsky. He ironically that he himself does not know exactly how many children he has.
