The horror master, writer Stephen King decided to shake off the old days. Now the star is writing a sequel to his famous novel The Shining. Recently, Stephen even read to the public excerpts from the new work, and journalists concluded that the work is close to completion.
The Shining is Stephen King's third novel. It was released in 1977 and instantly brought immense popularity to the author. The book is considered one of the best literary works in the horror genre.
King's plans to write a sequel to the story of Danny Torrance, a boy with unusual abilities, became known in November 2009. Then the American said that he began to think about the fate of his character. “I've always wondered what happened to that boy from The Shining,” Stephen said. "So the plot of the sequel began to take shape."
Meanwhile, a prototype of the Overlook Hotel, the Stanley Hotel, has opened in Colorado. It is believed that staying in this hotel inspired King to write The Shining. According to the hotel administration, ghosts do live here. But unlike the ghosts in the novel, they don't hurt anyone.
Danny Torrance was six in the first book; he and his family settled at the Overlook Hotel, where the boy's father got a job. The hotel is inhabited by ghosts that the boy sees. Despite the fact that at the end of the work the boy and his mother leave the hotel and the story ends well for Danny, according to the writer, the character should have had a serious psychological trauma.
In the sequel, Danny works as an orderly in a hospice for the hopelessly ill, whom he prepares for death with the help of his mystical gift. At some point, the man encounters the Tribe - a clan of psychological vampires that feed on the energy of people like Torrance.
The new novel was named Doctor Sleep. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear when King's new work will go to press.
