Life without cosmetics

It all started when my bag was stolen at work. It contained money, a passport - of course, stolen bags always contain important documents! - several membership cards with discounts, a Pepsi bank and all sorts of dear and sweet little things that are usually littered with handbags.

The loss meant that I had to contact the Russian embassy - it was abroad, go to the capital for a new document, resolve the issue with a visa - we were just going home soon, to restore all my deiccount cards, and also to change door locks, since my home address was indicated on one of the cards along with the keys. In short, there is little joy.

But in addition to the above, in the bag were freshly purchased mascara and eyeliner from The Body Shop and my favorite lipstick Chanel. For some reason I decided that all this could be useful to me at any moment of the day. Thus, from now on, I am without makeup, since all my make-up available with these three items was exhausted.

- You think about the real nonsense! - the beloved wondered, - you have no idea how much blood they will drink at the Russian embassy.

But to me my cosmetic things, endured through long trials, errors and costs verified among other companies and shades, were much more expensive than some piece of paper. Because it soon became clear that, firstly, Chanel no longer produces my lipstick, and, secondly, that The Body Shop salon in our city closed just a few days ago.

And what is the hairbrush lost forever - my best, wildly expensive brush! Damn it! It would be better if they just took out a wallet! There, by the way, there was just a drop of money. The rest of the things are useless for everyone but me.

“We’ll find you something else,” the beloved consoled, “if you want, we’ll go to the largest department store and choose any brand.

The temptation was great.

- You don't understand! - I sobbed. - You know how much I've tried! I’ll take it now and don’t wear makeup at all!

It was a threat, but the beloved suddenly grabbed it.

- Well, don't paint! I have seen you with cosmetics for over a year now, for a change, walk in natural form.

- Yeah, like a pale moth!

- Not at all. By the way, it suits you very much when you are washed.

Well, wow. Maybe he just decided to save money and time on a trip to the neighboring town for Bodishop ink? But it's even interesting. Okay, I'll try to live without makeup for now. At least out of harm.

This is how my epic without makeup began.

Day One

I didn't get enough sleep at all. From the mirror something looked at me, reminiscent of Mona Lisa, only not with a mysterious smile, but with absolute colorlessness.

I remembered reading about Leonardo da Vinci: as if he had made a bet that he could paint a beautiful woman without eyebrows and eyelashes. Of course, he won the bet: there she is, hanging in a separate room in the Louvre, and tourists crowd around her. Well, hardly anyone will stop around me. Although there are no eyelashes, no eyebrows either.

Day two

I came to work, avoiding looking at faces. No matter how they asked what happened to me, whether I got sick. Going to the girls, I immediately asked for mascara. It turned out that not a single one carried it with her, although everyone was painted. I remembered what weighty cosmetic bags Russian friends always carry with them, and I was disheartened. Even the inveterate fashionista-bartender in our club did not have ink.

Day Three

I am slowly getting used to the new look. After all, I have been painting all the time since the last grade of school. I am trying to console myself with the statement of one connoisseur:"

After all, it is not cosmetics that colors a person, but the soul. Is that so? But if only to spiritual beauty and a drop of sinful antimony and whitewash …

Day four

Glancing at myself in the mirror in the store, I discovered that there were no streaks under the eyes. Not at all. But earlier, if you apply cream there, then ink or pencil is slightly imprinted. Ah, well, yes, I don't wear makeup now. By the way, not bad at all. Suitable for the sporty-doltish style, to which I am here, far from my homeland, have already got used to, obeying the general mood.

Day 5

Somewhere I heard that men are terribly touched by the sleepy look of an unadorned lover when she wakes up with him in the same bed. There is something in this. The main thing is to smile, even through a dream. And people will be drawn to you. Including those lying in the neighborhood.

Day six

The process of washing every day gives pleasure, unknown from distant childhood.

1. No need to remove eye makeup with one tool.

2. No need to cleanse your face with another means.

3. You can simply wash with scented foam.

Seventh day

For a week now, I have been trying unsuccessfully to call the embassy of my country, hoping to get a new passport in time. It seems that the beloved was right. The problem with the lack of cosmetics is easier to solve so far.

Day eight

While going to work, I got caught in the rain. I was glad to think that it is not necessary, risking to catch the eye of the male bosses, frantically rushing into the ladies' room, washing the streams of mascara on her cheeks and renewing her makeup.

Day nine

The way home was marked by a lingering whistle of a luxurious Citroen flying past with a driver leaning out of the window, smiling at all 32 teeth.

Day ten

One girl was once given a compliment: "Darling, there are almost no women left in the world who manage to look great right after waking up." Sounds elegant. I like it. The morning glance in the mirror is more and more pleasing. And I have beautiful eyes. The skin is smooth and clean. Why did I decide that I am a pale moth? Indeed, the natural look does not spoil me at all. And her eyelashes are almost black. And I had no doubt that they were long. I have never bought lengthening mascara in principle. And the lips are beautifully contoured. Why do I need lipstick at all? And how much did it cost, by the way? Brrrr …

Day eleven

The pick-up process takes minutes. This is how much time I used to spend on targeting a marafet? And if, God forbid, one eye turned out to be larger than the other, then you had to endlessly correct everything, squinting at the clock and being distracted by the hissing of a late husband, "that's all, dear, I'm already finishing."

Since I had not yet bothered to buy a bag, all the necessary things began to fit in my pocket. Oddly few of them fell into the category of necessary ones. What have I used to stuff my, I must say, rather big reticule?

Day twelve

I like myself more and more. I hear compliments about my unearthly beauty from my beloved with the same frequency. And this is perhaps the most encouraging.

Day thirteen

In the computer class, a student from a friendly country sat down and sang for a long time about the fact that Russian girls are the most beautiful. Then for a long time he tried to seduce me for coffee somewhere in the evening, despite my unobtrusive sparkle with a wedding ring, worn according to all local marriage rules. My husband knitted his eyebrows and threatened to ban me from the kitchen. Maybe, well, her absolutely, this cosmetics, since I already bloom and smell?

Day twenty one

A friend, like a woman, was imbued with my tragedy with the loss of my bag, brought good news: in the cosmetic section of the St. George's grand jubilee sale. "And your beloved Chanel has tons of special offers," she announced.

Would you like to go?
