The famous athlete Evgeni Plushenko may refuse to participate in the 2018 Olympics. Alas, a back injury, due to which the skater was forced to withdraw from singles at the Sochi Olympics, again made itself felt. However, Eugene hopes for the best.

As it became known the day before, the two-time Olympic champion will not take part in the test skates of the Russian national team due to health problems. “I am returning from Israel, where they put a blockade on my back. Next week I'll start skating, but I won't be in time for the skates. I can't say in what next start I will take part, I will prepare,”Plushenko told R-Sport.

“I myself really thought about returning to sports,” said 32-year-old Plushenko in an interview with Russian publications shortly before returning to the national team. - We need to help men's single skating. I have a great desire. I go back to show the result. We have captains - the president and director of figure skating. They are experienced leaders. I am an athlete who fulfills my task. This is my goal for the coming years."

Recall that in March last year, the athlete underwent surgery on the spine. Evgeny recovered quite quickly and in April of this year he was included in the Russian national team for the 2015/16 season.

At the same time, the champion has repeatedly spoken about plans to perform at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korean Pyeongchang. “Everything that was broken has healed, there is nothing more to break. Let's try to compete at the fifth Olympiad and perform with dignity,”the athlete assured.
