Due to the spread of coronavirus infection, the popular song contest has been canceled. For music lovers, the question is whether there will be Eurovision in 2021.

Background of events

The organizers of Eurovision announced the cancellation of the competition in March, which upset not only the fans, but all the participants. The event was supposed to take place in the Netherlands.

It was planned that Russia will go to represent the group "Little Big" with an incendiary song "Uno". The charming chubby - Dmitry Krasilov - was supposed to be a real sensation. Instead, a musical show with performers from different countries was shown on television, the broadcast was conducted by Channel One.

Where and when will the competition take place

And on July 15, it became known where Eurovision will be held in 2021. Thus, the 65th competition will be held in Rotterdam (Netherlands), at the multifunctional arena Rotterdam Ahoy. This was announced after the show "Stars Light Up".

Recall that the winner of the competition in 2019 was Duncan Lawrence with the song "Arcade". According to the rules, it will open the Eurovision Song Contest program in 2021.

About changes in the rules

In order to reduce the number of delegation members and expand the creative potential, as well as to minimize the technical burden on the organizing broadcaster, performers were allowed to use pre-recorded backing vocals. This rule can be used at will, it is optional.

It is allowed to use live backings together with recorded ones. However, they should not overlap or replace the lead performer.

Vocalists-contestants are required to perform songs on stage during rehearsals and in the arena live. It is possible that after the Eurovision Song Contest this rule may be revised.

The country's broadcasters have the right to choose a contestant, this news was officially confirmed by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) on March 20, 2020. The same organization gave clarification regarding the songs announced last year: they cannot be performed in the 2021 competition.

Calendar dates of the competition

The dates for the song contest in 2021 have already been announced. The semi-finals will be held on May 18 and 20. And the final is on Saturday, May 22nd. From this it follows that the organizers have a little over six months to prepare.

Thus, it is already known whether there will be Eurovision in 2021. The competition will feature 18 of 41 musicians and bands announced in 2020, when the competition was canceled due to the pandemic.

What you need to participate in Eurovision

The broadcasters have the right to choose a worthy representation of the participating country. In this process, according to the rules, the European Broadcasting Union does not interfere. In Russia, the last word rests with Channel One and the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.

There is an agreement between the companies to appoint an artist one by one. In 2020, the decision was made by Channel One, respectively, in 2021 this right will be transferred to VGTRK.

The company also decides whether the choice will be limited to the opinion of an expert jury or whether the voting will be entrusted to viewers. Neither method is contrary to the rules and is practiced in many countries.

Many have expressed a desire to send performers announced in 2020 to the 2021 song contest. But according to the rules, the composition should still be completely new, never heard before.

The duration of the composition is no more than three minutes. During the performance of the number, up to 6 people can be on the stage, including the performer (dancers, backing vocalists). The song must be performed live, the use of phonogram is not allowed.

The only thing that is allowed to be used in the recording is the accompaniment. According to the rules in force since 1999, the singer has the right to perform the song in any language.

Participants under the age of 16 are not allowed to participate in the competition. But nationality does not matter. This means that any performer can represent a particular country, regardless of which country he is a citizen of.

The main thing is to look decent, to present material that does not contain obscene expressions, political statements and advertisements, which is not provocative.

Whether Eurovision will be held in 2021 is already known. There is no exact information on who will represent Russia yet. Presumably, the guys from Little Big, who were supposed to participate in the competition in 2020, will go to the competition.

The young, fiery team instantly won love and audience sympathy. By the way, the group first became popular in Europe, and later in the Russian Federation. The final decision regarding the contestant from Russia will be announced at the beginning of 2021.
