In 2018, the baggage rules and the size of hand luggage on Aeroflot aircraft have changed slightly. To avoid being caught off guard, this new instruction is well worth studying.

Aeroflot in 2018: new baggage transportation rules

Carry-on baggage is measured by airport employees according to different criteria separately for each person who wants to get on board. Now the dimensions allowed for personal use on board the bags have been increased by 5 cm (55x40x25 cm). It is strictly forbidden to take photo or video equipment, portable PCs or even an umbrella into the aircraft cabin, but no one prohibits transporting small musical equipment.

Since February 15, 2018, Aeroflot has begun to carefully check the size of carry-on baggage carried on the plane. If the bag does not comply with the permitted standards of the measuring calibrator, it is forbidden to take it.

According to the current rules, the check is carried out at check-in, during the document check and at the entrance / exit, however, the rules may differ at different airports.

Airport workers explain their decision by the fact that users of their company's services complain that their belongings simply do not have enough space in the aircraft cabin. Until February 15, passengers were unhappy with the fact that some suitcases and photo bags, which fit into the airline's regulations, could not be placed in the measuring frame.

These items will now need to be placed in the baggage compartment. Due to pressure from consumers of the airline's services on the Aeroflot administration, the dimensions of hand luggage are now 55x40x25 cm (+ 5 cm).

The standards of transportation and size of hand luggage, approved in February this year, met both supporters and opponents among passengers. On the one hand, users of Aeroflot's services are happy with the topic that now there is no need to tamp their small hand luggage among other people's disproportionate bags. On the other hand, some passengers were unhappy with the new procedure for transporting personal belongings on the plane.

Since 2018-26-02, the size of carry-on luggage has been increased to 55x40x25 cm, i.e. by 5 cm. Many medium-sized suitcases now fit into these dimensions.

According to the current instructions, photo / video equipment, netbooks, paper literature and some other items are excluded from the list of those things that can be transported during the flight with you.

However, items that can be included in carry-on baggage include the following:

  • any bag not heavier than 5 kg;
  • one unopened food bag purchased in duty-free;
  • small bouquet;
  • cereals, mixtures and yoghurts for small children, the amount that is sufficient for the child during the flight;
  • jackets, fur coats, hoodies and any other outerwear;
  • a stroller or cot for a child, which is not heavier than 7 kg;
  • medicines that are necessary to maintain the normal functioning of the health and life of the passenger during the flight, in this case they will ask for a corresponding health certificate;
  • any devices for passengers with special needs and disabilities (crutches, walking sticks, etc.).

Musicians will be pleased with the following news: now their instruments are considered hand luggage if they do not exceed the standard dimensions. By the way, this does not apply to guitars, because they can be transported even if they do not fit into these dimensions. However, the transportation of musical equipment must be coordinated with the dispatcher 2 days before departure.

Below we will consider the list and dimensions of carry-on baggage that can be carried on the plane in 2018. We will find out what new rules have been established by Aeroflot.

What is considered carry-on baggage according to Aeroflot's 2018 standards

According to Aeroflot's internal regulations, passengers are allowed to have the following items with them in the aircraft cabin:

  • any suitcase or briefcase (up to 5 kg and up to 80 cm in size);
  • a closed bag with duty-free food, a sealed suit, a jacket, a mobile stroller for children or disabled people, a bouquet of flowers and medicines to maintain the normal functioning of the health and life of passengers, in which case it is necessary to present a health certificate.

Employees check the belongings of passengers using a measuring calibrator, in which you need to determine the carry-on baggage. If handles, wheels or something else peep out of this measuring frame, then this bag will be asked to be transported in the luggage compartment.

Verification is carried out at check-in, during the identification of passengers and before boarding the flight.

Carriage of a bag weighing no more than 5 kg is not paid. You can put unlimited amounts of baby food in this bag (of course, if you have the child himself), food, including alcohol, from duty-free, portoplets with clothes or bed linen, a baby or wheelchair, medicines (there must be a typewritten document, confirming the need for these drugs for the passenger).

Conditions for the carriage of amateur photo / video equipment, netbooks and other devices as carry-on baggage

In October 2017, the administration of Aeroflot was forced to reduce the list of items that passengers have the right to carry with them on board the aircraft free of charge, in addition to hand luggage. This decision was made in accordance with the regulations in the amendments to the FAP.

Now, photo and video equipment, netbooks and all other devices, with the exception of those that fit in your pocket, fall under these amendments. All other gadgets must be packed or carried as luggage.

Liquids are allowed, but there are certain rules. Containers with mixtures should not exceed 100 ml. In addition, this vessel will need to be placed in a sealed bag or a 20x20 cm package. One passenger - one such package, the only exception is baby food, which can be in unlimited volumes (a prerequisite is the presence of a child). Even in spite of such scrupulous conditions, the package will still be checked during a formal inspection at the reception.

This rule also includes jam, sun cream, personal hygiene products, cosmetics, food, etc. The above should be contained in a container of no more than 100 ml.

Will you be allowed to take food on board?

When it comes to solid food, for example, sandwiches, vegetables, fruits, bakery or confectionery products, then it is allowed to bring them on board, but with liquid food the issue is different. It is subject to the rule on the transport of liquids, that is, liquid food products must be transported in containers of no more than 100 ml. For example, soups, yoghurts, milk, etc. Containers with them will need to be sealed in transparent bags, which will be carefully inspected before boarding the flight.

Nevertheless, this rule does not apply to meals for the smallest passengers, it can be carried so much that the child will have enough for the entire flight.
