As it turned out after Latern's arrest, her story was not entirely fictional. In February, she was indeed diagnosed with a breast tumor. However, it turned out to be benign. According to the husband of the suspect, he had no idea that his wife was sick with cancer, and learned about it from the police.
“I feel like I was hit hard,” said one of the victims, the owner of the laundry, Diana Teichelman, whose grandmother died of breast cancer and her sister had to seek the help of oncologists twice. - I never thought that someone could do this. My sister was lucky, she had insurance, and there are so many people around who do not have it, and they need help."
After the deception was revealed, Latern said that she had come up with a story with cancer and enlarged her breasts only in order to save her marriage: according to her, she and her husband had serious disagreements, and she hoped that the news of her serious illness (and, of course, new breasts) will bring peace back to the family, writes Ytro.ru. Nevertheless, it was not possible to save the relationship of the spouses. In early November, the girl's husband filed for divorce.
