Today, there are a lot of rumors and speculations around plastic surgery. Otari Gogiberidze, a leading plastic surgeon, helped us figure out what is true and what is false.
Otari, patients on the Internet call you "the king of noses". Tell us, is it due to the fact that you have been doing rhinoplasty for more than 15 years?
- Probably because I have been doing rhinoplasty for over 20 years, not 15 (laughs). In general, for the first time I hear about the title of "king of noses" even somehow awkward.
How many such operations do you perform per year?
- About 250 operations. But, it should be noted that this is one of the most difficult operations and often the recovery period after depends on the skill of the surgeon and on how the patient follows all the necessary recommendations, plus on the peculiarities of the connective tissues and mucous membranes of the patient himself.
There is a common myth that rhinoplasty cannot be done in the summer, why is this?
- This is an old myth, no longer relevant. Rhinoplasty is done all year round, and there is no reason to postpone it until the winter. Then appendicitis cannot be removed in the summer, for that matter.
It turns out that there are no seasonal contraindications, but what are they?
- Contraindications include the patient's psychoemotional state and systemic diseases that are incompatible with this type of surgery. When it is impossible to administer anesthesia, when there is a high risk of blood loss, etc.
In the summer, most often, I think, patients want new breasts. How much does the percentage of mammoplasty grow in the summer?
- Absolutely the same, both in summer and in winter, regardless of the season. By the beach season, everyone wants a slim body, so they go for liposakitsa, and they want a new beautiful breast all year round. The most demanded operation at all times and seasons is mammoplasty.
And with what defects do patients come wishing to correct the mammary glands?
- This is the prolapse of the mammary glands, underdevelopment, small mammary glands, also ptosis of the mammary gland after feeding a child or gigantomastia (large breast), which must be reduced and tightened, or a tubular (elongated) form of the mammary gland or congenital asymmetry.
And if the patient undergoes an operation and immediately becomes pregnant, what should be done?
- When a patient comes for a consultation, we say these moments: it is not advisable to become pregnant within a year after the operation.
Any hormonal changes can lead to not very pleasant aesthetic consequences. There may be the formation of rough fibrous capsules. Deformation of the mammary glands associated with tissue scarring.
And as for the beautiful new lingerie, when will it be possible to wear it after breast surgery?
- In a month, you can already try on new beautiful lingerie. Moreover, now there is a wonderful underwear, the so-called "second step", which has compressive and supportive properties that do not squeeze your new breasts. Such underwear will appear in our clinic at the end of July, but this is still a secret.
Otari, and together with the breast under the same anesthesia, is it possible to correct the abdomen or, for example, do lipofilling?
- It is possible, it is important to discuss all this with the surgeon at the initial consultation.
How important is it to follow a diet after surgery?
- If you have had liposuction or abdominoplasty, then diet is a must. If you have done rhinoplasty or blepharoplasty, then you need to follow not a diet, but the doctor's recommendations for a quick recovery.
Are you a frequent visitor to social events?
- It is hard to say. They are called to events often, but they cannot attend regularly. Sometimes I leave the operating room late at night.
Surely, for a kilometer you can determine who has done what, and what is left of their own?
- I can, but, to be honest, I am not carried away. Good work, even someone else's, is nice to see. But to praise in the eyes - you must admit, it's embarrassing.
Are there many of your patients among the stars?
- If one of them calls themselves stars, then yes (smiles).
What is the most common stellar operation?
- There are the most popular surgeries: plastic surgery of the breast and plastic surgery of the nose, and those related to the correction of age-related changes. Everyone wants to have a lush bust, a neat breathable nose and a youthful body. And the stars are no exception.
What can you blindly recommend to girls the following plastic surgery trends?
- In general, I never recommend anything to girls, if I recommend something to everyone, it will not be right.
When she comes for a consultation, she must clearly know what she wants. If I see that the patient does not need an operation and this is a race for fashion, then I would rather dissuade and send it to a beautician. It is not correct to cause complexes in a person. Girls need to be loved with all their strengths and weaknesses.
