Look closely, they are everywhere, these women reading romance novels: on public transport, in the waiting room, in the doctor's waiting room. They look first into the book, then over it, and their gaze is covered with a haze of reverie. They are completely different: young and old, beautiful and ugly, smart and not burdened with intelligence. But they share one common passion.

And one day you find a baby paperback book from the Everlasting Love series on your coffee table. And, seeing the bookmark on page 157, you understand that it is you who are reading it. Why do you need it? And what generally attracts completely different women to read books, romance novels, what makes them simply sweep such books off the shelves? What dream or fairy tale do the authors of such books give their grateful readers? What kind of man and woman are put on a pedestal, how is their relationship presented?

To find answers to these questions, I needed an impressive stack of baby books read to holes from the nearest library and two weeks of free time from work.

Ice and fire

age: up to thirty. Appearance: A beauty with sensual lips, matte skin, expressive eyes, slender legs and long thick hair. Hair and eye color varies. Modest, intelligent, proud and very serious. He doesn't think about men at all. Usually a virgin. The financial situation leaves much to be desired. Works tirelessly, caring for a seriously ill father (mother), or an orphan.

age: 10-20 years older than the heroine. Appearance: hairy, muscular handsome man, whose height is much higher than average, facial features are sharp, mouth is sensual, chin is sculpturally solid, shoulders are wide, hips are narrow, voice is low and imperious. When he enters the room, he takes up all the space. Brute masculine strength emanates from him. Financial position: multimillionaire. Some authors of romance novels add a face disfigured with scars (in battle or in a fight with wolves) to all the above qualities of the hero, making him a historical clone of Jofrei de Peyrac from Angelica.

in the role of "ice" is the heroine, and the hero winds around her like a kind of wild hawk. She is unapproachable and proud, constantly knocks down arrogance from him, says nasty things and slams the door. He is a predator, she is a hunted doe. She slaps him in the face, and he just grins. She throws a cup at him, and he catches her on the fly. She hates and desires him at the same time. And he always appears suddenly, like Bond, James Bond. That will pounce on her in the elevator with a sucking kiss and "tongue explores the frank depths of her mouth." She will invite you to dance at a party and squeeze her in her arms so that she comes to a state close to fainting and orgasm at the same time.

In almost all novels, the seducer does this: he takes the chin of a poor but proud beautiful sheep with two fingers and brings it closer to his face, to his very eyes, burning with desire - this is a gesture of possessiveness, an attempt to suppress and conquer.

Reading books, romance novels, we become hostages of intrigue. Thus, with the use of brute male power, a woman gradually awakens in the heroin. She trembles and vows not to give up, not to give a kiss without love. The multimillionaire doesn't back down.

A terrible secret that does not allow two loving hearts to be reunited. For example, Jane believes that she will not have children, because her father suffered from a terrible disease that can be inherited, and therefore she vowed never to get married. And Bill vowed after the death of his wife never to marry again. And Tanya, the crown princess (she does not know about this), has a crescent-shaped mark on her pope, which indicates her noble origin. She herself does not know how to turn her booty to the mirror, so the main character once again has to use violent methods. That contributes to the awakening in the heroine of shameful, alluring and unexplored sensations.

Fiery whirlwind

it does not come at all when the hero gives the heroine a pearl necklace and a diamond ring. And not when he takes her to Milan and dresses her from head to toe in the most expensive boutiques. Even at this moment, she is still unapproachable, although she accepts gifts, however, after much persuasion and assurances of sincere friendship. The turning point occurs when her sensuality is not only awakened, but already screaming at the top of her lungs. And here there are two options for the development of events: either the heroine herself falls into the arms of the hero with the words: "Take me!", Or he takes her by force, because he already endured it for 157 pages of text.

erotica is one of the main means of maintaining the reader's interest. The heroine plays a passive role, the hero pulls out every kiss from her by force: "Insatiable lips torment her mouth, her tongue moves deeper in a fiery stream, and she moans from an incomprehensible frightening feeling." Further - more: "He moved his mouth to his chest and began to gently kiss one nipple, then the other, as if choosing - which is better and more pleasant. She closed her eyes from the sweet languor. The kisses became more and more greedy, the hips fluttered …" And finally: " With one sharp movement, he spreads her weakening legs. She feels how strong his carnal lust is … "But then someone is sure to knock on the door, or the hero himself realizes that he has gone too far and quickly retreats, leaving the heroine in mixed feelings. And here the reader herself, excited by such a plot twist, simply flies her gaze over the pages of the novel, gradually approaching the finale.

Happy end

At the very end, having overcome the obligatory intrigues of enemies and painful doubts, the heroes lack only one thing for happiness - the disclosure of a terrible secret. It is then that it turns out that Jane's father is not Jane's father at all ("And I am your mother"), and therefore she can safely give birth to children. And Bill vowed never to marry at all, not because he loved his deceased wife very much, but because she was a terrible bitch. And Tanya finally agrees to turn her booty to the mirror and see the happy mark. Then comes the boundless and all-consuming female happiness.

As a result of the analysis of such literature, the

In romance novels, men constantly practice sexual abstinence, they are ready to pursue their beloved woman for as many years as they want, but not in life.

In romance novels, women are outwardly cold and unapproachable, they must be conquered, conquered, awakened by their sensuality, or else they will slam the door, throw a cup, spit in their face. In real life, only a hysterical old maid would have done this, and even then if at least someone had stuck to her.

In romance novels, multimillionaires fall in love with Cinderellas. In life - no. Strained with multimillionaires.

In romance novels, there is only one step from hatred to love, in real life it is the other way around.

And most women know about all this, but they are still "glad to be deceived", absorbing baby books like seeds, unable to stop. Why? Statistics show that women's novels are mostly read by women over forty and girls under twenty. With the latter, everything is simple - sensuality awakens, but there is no person nearby who would advise really worthwhile books about the relationship between a man and a woman, and romance novels are always on the shelves, beckon with erotic covers. And as a result, girls have a distorted, idealized idea of love relationships, which can subsequently damage normal communication with the opposite sex. Not to mention the education of bad literary taste. The passion for love affairs of older women is generated by completely different reasons.

Unfulfilled hopes, lack of spiritual intimacy with her husband, growing up and leaving the family of children - this is the little that pushes women to plunge headlong into the imaginary world of ideal men and true love. In addition, romance novels cultivate an anti-feminist position, traditionally representing a woman as a passive principle and a man as an active one. Most women still subconsciously dream of just such a distribution of roles.

Yes, if you read romance books, they distract us from the gray reality. Yes, plunging into them, we see ourselves in the place of the main character, which means - beautiful, desired, beloved. But this is self-deception, a substitution of real life for a sugar-coated dream, an escape from problems that require immediate solutions, into a world where everything is presented to you on a silver platter - beauty, success, love of a handsome millionaire. But in life there is so much you can and should have time to see, do, experience. And is it worth wasting your precious time reading literary rubbish, even if in a beautiful wrapper? I think no.
