Every year, as soon as the production calendar, approved by the Prime Minister of the country and drawn up with the participation of three parties, appears in the media. How are the days off in the coming year and is there a postponement for the holidays. 2020 is no exception. To compensate for the holidays that fell on Saturday and Sunday, movements were undertaken, therefore we rest on March 8 not one day, but three whole days.

About federal holidays

There are several types of holidays in the Russian Federation, but only some of them are days off according to the current legislation. The Labor Code contains a list of dates on which people officially rest, without working out the long-awaited rest. These include the New Year and Christmas holidays, officially lasting from January 1 to January 8, Russia Day and Defender of the Fatherland Day, May - May 1 and Victory Day.

National Unity Day. March 8 in some neighboring countries, excluded from official holidays as part of decommunization, is celebrated in Russia as Women's Day and is widely celebrated.

Every year, the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation seeks opportunities to extend national holidays, carrying out a transfer to days close to the date, if it becomes necessary to compensate for an official holiday that falls on Saturday or Sunday. After all, the Labor Code in the relevant article provides for such a procedure if it is enshrined in an official decree.

A characteristic feature of 2020, in most cases, federal weekends fall on simple, weekly ones. Therefore, how we rest is enshrined in the annual decree signed by the Russian prime minister.

Representatives of employers and workers, the Ministry of Labor, take part in the discussion of the production calendar. The transfer was dictated not only by considerations of expediency and concern for the good rest of the Russians. The articles of the Labor Code are taken into account, providing for a working period of no more than 43 hours, a special instruction (Order of the Ministry of Health and Social Development No. 588) on the procedure for calculating and calculating working hours. They became the basis for the transfer of federal holidays, which fell on Saturday and Sunday.

In choosing the tactics of transfer, the approach was used variable. For example, it was not possible to extend the duration of one vacation to the usual ten-day period; they are celebrated from Wednesday to Wednesday, 8 days. At the same time, in January there were still 114 days off and 17 working days, as it was in 2019.

But moved on May, January 4 and 5, 2020, determined how we rest on May 1. Thanks to the transfer of January Saturday and Sunday to days located in the immediate vicinity of the first May holiday, it became possible to rest for five whole days in a row.

Women's day and features of 2020

On March 8, Sunday fell, which is a day off even without the spring women's holiday. In the production calendar, the question of how we rest on March 8 was solved quite simply. It was decided to postpone Saturday, March 7, 2020 to Monday, March 9. This means that Russians can celebrate International Women's Day and congratulate their beloved women for three whole days - on Saturday, 7, Sunday, March 8, and Monday, 9 of the same spring month.

The second Sunday in March, which coincided with a federal holiday, was moved to a nearby Monday. There is a pleasant component to this - the citizens of Russia are waiting for three whole days off. However, the fact that the eve of the beloved holiday fell on Saturday deprives them of the working day shortened by 1 hour, which usually takes place on the eve of a significant date.

In addition, not all workers who have the right to rest on March 8 will be able to use it. This restriction applies to those who work in shifts, work on a rotational basis, or refer to professions whose work must be provided at all times.

In 2020, on March 8, those who, according to the schedule, must provide comfortable conditions for all vacationers, will have to work:

• drive vehicles for holiday travel;
• to be on duty in case of need for emergency medical care, extinguishing fires, preventing offenses or arresting criminals;
• to serve visitors of entertainment establishments or catering establishments;
• creative professionals who take part in festive performances, concerts, entertainment events on the streets and squares of large cities;
• transport dispatchers, boiler stokers, flower sellers in flower shops and grocery supermarkets;
• other workers, in whom the need arose on a holiday, and they signed a written consent to such activities, hoping to earn a higher tariff or going to meet the authorities.

All other Russian citizens, when asked how we rest on their favorite women's holiday, can count on three non-working days, paid and provided legally - Saturday and Sunday, 7 and 8 (7 by law is a working day, but it falls on Saturday).

The holiday in 2020 turned out to be on Sunday, but it was postponed to Monday, compensating for the workers at the official registration, on the next working day.

In 2020, March 8 is Sunday, but the duration of the holiday is three whole days:

• Saturday, 7 - rest, as it should be according to the Labor Code, after the working week;
• March 8 - Sunday is compensated for by workers with a postponement;
• 9, on Monday, Russians rest for Sunday, 8 March;
• the unfortunate arrangement of the weekend did not shorten, but prolonged the holiday.
