The Russian government always prepares in advance a draft calendar for the next year. It is covered twice in the media - after agreement with representatives of the trade union and employers, and after its final approval.

The calendar for 2020 with holidays and weekends provides for the moment that the year will be a leap year. Therefore, it was drawn up taking into account the shortened days given by the Labor Code before holidays. 2020 starts on Wednesday and ends on Thursday.

So in 2020:

• the total number of days - 366; of them in February - 29 days;
• number of working days - 248;
• the number of days off is 118, which includes 8 days of public holidays.

Traditional holidays:

1. New Year's holidays from 01.01.20 to 08.01.20.
2. Christmas Day, 07.01.20.
3. Defender of the Fatherland Day, 23.02.20.
4. International Women's Day, 08.03.20.
5. Spring and Labor Day, 01.05.20.
6. Victory Day, 09.05.20.
7. Day of Russia on 12.06.20 and Day of National Unity, 04.11.20, are enshrined in Art. 112 of the Labor Code.

The coincidence of a holiday with a day off, according to Art. 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, is postponed to the next working day after the holiday. In this case, the working day preceding the holiday is 1 hour shorter. All this is taken into account in the calendar for 2020 with holidays and weekends that await Russians in the coming year.

The calendar compiled by the Government for 2020 with holidays and weekends in Russia gives information in advance how many working days the residents of the country will expect, as well as how many weekends and holidays there will be.

The year will begin with New Year's holidays, which will last 8 days. The same number of days of rest awaits Russians in May, but with a break for working days. Rest in May is planned from 01.05 to 05.05, then from 09.05 to 11.05. This year gives 3 days of rest for men's and women's holidays, respectively, from 22.02 to 24.02 and from 07.03 to 09.03. Also, there will be 3 days of rest in June in honor of the Day of Russia - from 12.06 to 14.06. Alone is 1 day off at the National Unity Day - 04.11.

Postponed holidays in 2020

Formally, May holidays are celebrated on 01.05 and 09.05. Russians need a long rest in the spring to start working at their dachas. Government members understand the importance of the long weekend in May for Russians. They themselves these days will go to their summer cottages. The transfer of rest from winter to spring has become commonplace. Thus, the government did the same when drawing up the calendar for 2020 with holidays and weekends, giving people in Russia the transfer of two additional weekends from January to May.

These were the days:

• from 04.01 to 04.05;
• from 05.01 to 05.05.

These 2 days were "found" in January 2020, because the 4th and 5th fell on Saturday and Sunday during the New Year holidays. According to the Labor Code, these days off should not be lost, so they were postponed to May.

The transfer will affect men's and women's holidays. According to the 2020 calendar, they both fell on Sundays, so the following Monday in February and March became non-working days.

The same situation is emerging in 2020 with the celebration of Victory Day. 2020-09-05 according to the calendar - Saturday. Therefore, the day of rest, according to the requirements of the Labor Code, is postponed to the following Monday, 11.05.

A curious situation is emerging this year with the New Year holidays. There will be 2 working days before their start - Monday 12/30/19 and Tuesday 2019-31-12. Moreover, 31.12, according to the Labor Code, will be a short working day. After the end of the New Year holidays, there will also be only 2 working days - Thursday 09/01 and Friday 2020-01-10.

After them the usual calendar Saturday and Sunday will come. This moment is interesting in that it will enable working citizens to more easily adapt to the work rhythm after a long weekend.

The holiday of Russia - 12.06 in 2020 will not require a postponement, because it falls on Friday. The day automatically becomes non-working and will extend the weekend - 12.06 to 14.06.

The National Unity Day, 04.11, will conclude the festive series in the calendar for 2020 with holidays and weekends in Russia. In the calendar, it falls on Wednesday, which will be a non-working day, and without any transfers, it will simply divide the working week into two two-day parts.

These working days become 1 hour shorter:

• before May Day - 2020-30-04;
• before Victory Day - 05/08/20;

• before the New Year 2021 - 12/31/20.

The detailed calendar of weekends and holidays for 2020, proposed by the Government of the Russian Federation, suits all working citizens.
