Rejuvenation of the intimate area - a necessity or just another bluff? What beauty technologies have gynecologists borrowed? And what turned out to be completely useless in the "lotus cave"? In a frank conversation with a doctor, obstetrician-gynecologist of the Moscow Academic IVF Clinic, Candidate of Medical Sciences Maria Kovalenko, we talked about which they write a lot, but usually speak in a whisper.

Seven years ago, my patients were forced to travel to Hollywood for intimate rejuvenation. Fillers, laser and thread lifting for the delicate area were not available in Moscow. And in famous clinics in Miami and Boston, such technologies were used back in the early 2000s. Now everything has changed. The battle for women's rights has reached its peak, modern requests have appeared, the popularity of such services has instantly grown in our country.

For many, it has become important not only health, but also confidence, and at the same time the quality of sexual life. How do patients dare to speak on such sensitive topics? They don't say so. As a rule, they come because of the husband's dissatisfaction, and during the examination it turns out that the woman herself does not know the joy of sex. Depending on the causes of anorgasmia, solutions may be different. Sometimes plastic is required to change the dome of the clitoral hood. Fillers also help to make it more open. For the G-spot, hyaluronic acid injections and electromyostimulation are used. True, in my lifetime, the question about this procedure was asked only once, and then by phone. The patient never showed up for an appointment at the clinic.

What I really think is the most serious and common problem is prolapse or prolapse of the vaginal walls. One of its first symptoms is mild urinary incontinence when sneezing, coughing, physical exertion. Every second woman who has given birth is faced with this. The laser allows you to eliminate the ailment. Today there are two types of it. Erbium, better known as "Fraxel", acts superficially and is successfully used to rejuvenate the face, eyelids, and reduce scars. However, in gynecology, it is completely useless, although it is promoted by a number of medical centers.

From my own experience, I can say that only a classical CO2 laser gives tangible results. Three procedures with a break of three weeks are enough for the patients and their husbands to notice the difference. Another way to correct the back wall of the vagina is thread lifting. It also helps bring tissue back to prenatal position. At the Moscow Academic IVF Clinic we use American threads based on hyaluronic acid, which dissolve in a year and a half. But during this time, they contribute to the formation of a so-called supporting frame made of new collagen - the principle of operation of the threads is the same as in cosmetology.

Another aesthetic procedure that does not solve gynecological problems in any way is biorevitalization. Yes, many clinics have it in the price list. But I don't know who might need such an update in the intimate area. Understand, the whole organism is subject to aging. With age, the skin becomes loose in all areas because the level of collagen fibers decreases. But this is not a disease, but a natural process. And I see no indication or reason to prescribe in such cases a course of injections in the genital area. Among my patients, there are no those who dream that what is below the waist would look good in a close-up shot. A completely different matter is hyperplasia, when one labia is extended in relation to the other. Such changes occur due to the excessive neoplasm of tissue structural elements. There is a risk of mucosal pathology, etc. In the case of such a deformation, pain occurs, discomfort during sexual intercourse, then plastic surgery of the labia minora is recommended.

For the sake of objectivity, I will say that there are still beauty technologies that have become a real gift for both doctors and their patients. These are hyaluronic fillers used for recurrent cystitis. Previously, it was uselessly treated with antibiotics and antimicrobial drugs. Now, ultrasound examination determines the incorrect position of the urethra and aligns it with fillers. Girls do not know troubles for at least a year. Then the procedure can be repeated.

How do patients learn about such useful services? Most often from friends. Word of mouth also works in medicine. Better than others, information is conveyed by obstetricians-gynecologists who themselves underwent the laser lifting procedure, did intimate plastic surgery, put fillers or threads. They explain clearly, confirm the effectiveness by their own example and refer their patients to us. After all, no one can tell about it more competently than a doctor.
