With the change of season, drivers begin to worry about the question of when to change winter tires. According to the legislation of the Russian Federation, this must be done in a specially designated period. In 2022, new rules will come into force, which will need to be followed in order not to be fined.

Out of season tire penalty

The law was changed several times, abolished, and reintroduced. From 2022, the operation of cars with the "correct" tires will be strictly monitored by the traffic police. The penalty is planned to be introduced at once for 3 violations:

  • using summer tires in winter;
  • operation of the vehicle on studded tires in summer;
  • riding on worn out tires.

According to preliminary data, the law will enter into force on March 1, 2022. The fine will be 500 rubles.

The project is being developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Some theses are already known:

  • identical tires (studded / non-studded) must be fitted to all wheels of the vehicle;
  • winter tires are difficult to find on trucks, so the drivers of these vehicles may use snow chains.

Chains should be transported inside the vehicle and used for their intended purpose when necessary. If during the stopping of a truck driver by a traffic police officer in winter, the car does not have the necessary equipment, he will be fined.

The authorities of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation are endowed with the right to set the time frame for the operation of seasonal tires. This measure was introduced to take into account the individual weather conditions in the region.

When should you change your tires?

From 2022, a law will come into force, according to which 2 mandatory periods of rubber exploitation will be allocated:

  • summer - June-August;
  • winter - December-February.

During these months, each car must be equipped with the specified type of tires. Failure to comply with the law will result in a fine of RUB 500.

The remaining months are set aside for rubber replacement:

  • winter to summer - March-May;
  • summer to winter - September-November.

In intermediate periods of time, traffic police officers will not fine vehicle drivers for lack of reason.

Why change tires?

Some drivers care not only when, but also why to change tires. It is clear that, according to the law, in 2022 it is necessary to install winter tires instead of summer tires when cold weather sets in. But for what purpose is the reverse replacement carried out?

Winter tires are invented specifically for driving on ice-covered roads. Studs improve the grip of the car on the track surface, so the risk of slipping is minimized. Using winter tires during warmer months can have the opposite effect.

They should not be used for 3 main reasons:

  • excess noise when driving;
  • adverse effect on the road surface, up to destruction;
  • poor grip.

The last point may sound strange, but it is true. In winter, the spikes cling to the icy top layer, and the car skids less on special tires. In summer, studded tires begin to slip on the asphalt. Therefore, you should not hope for improved grip, it can fail at the most inopportune moment.
