For many, perfume or eau de toilette is a constant line in the shopping list. All the persuasions of a mother or a beloved man to save money or buy something more, in their opinion, necessary, cannot be compared with the temptation to acquire a beautiful bottle with an attractive aroma. The temptation becomes even greater when, in the next commercial, a beautiful woman is shown, attracting representatives of the opposite sex with a new scent.

But how not to get confused in a huge number of brands, colorful attractive bottles and a sea of different aromas? How do you choose the scent that's right for you? Where should you apply perfume to keep the scent longer? And in general, how to handle these glass vessels? Let's try to figure it all out.

A woman should choose a perfume in accordance with her age, hair color and temperament, because it is no secret to anyone that the same scent on two different women will "sound" differently. And once in a store, it's easy to drown in the variety and end up leaving empty-handed, ruined mood and headache.

Modern perfumes are very different from the classic ones that our grandmothers are so used to. Nowadays, artificially synthesized scents are mainly used in perfumery. The masters of the perfumery industry recreate notes of not only the rarest fruits and flowers, but also quite amazing and unusual smells - sand, smoke, charred wood, tobacco and even burnt rubber. However, usually the most expensive, complex and rare fragrances are born from natural ingredients.

Among perfumery fragrances, three directions stand out most clearly: natural floral themes, warm oriental tones and fresh, clear notes. Another division occurs into warm (floral) and cold (fresh) directions.

And the French perfumery committee identifies even more groups of fragrances:

  • citrus - with the scent of lemon, orange, bergamot and tangerine;
  • ferns - lavender, with notes of coumarin and bergamot;
  • amber - combinations of vanilla and incense, the classic scent of amber;
  • floral - with the smell of fresh flowers (roses, lilies, violets, daffodils, etc.);
  • forest - sandalwood, patchouli, cedar;
  • chypre - with the scent of oak moss, patchouli, bergamot;
  • leather - dry notes of wood, tobacco, smoke.

When choosing a perfume / eau de toilette, one should be guided not only by mood, emotions, a beautiful bottle and an attractive price. There are nuances that must be taken into account when going to the store.

Perfume should not be chosen early in the morning.as the nose picks up odors better in the afternoon. Cigarette smoke, by the way, has a very strong effect on the sense of smell, therefore try not to smoke before going to the perfume shop.

Original packaging and a bright, unusual bottle are not a guarantee of a high-quality and pleasant smell. You need to study perfumes not from bottles, but on testers.

Do not smell more than 3 scents during one visit to a perfume shop, otherwise the sense of smell will lose its ability to perceive smells as they are.

Remember that the scent of perfume unfolds gradually … First, the head notes are perceived (initial stage) - at this moment the alcoholic smell of the base prevails, it is too concentrated and may seem unpleasant. In 15–20 minutes after application, the real smell begins to appear on the body (the main stage), it is he who determines the general character of the aroma. Depending on the durability, it can last 20 hours or more. And for another 15-18 hours, residual, subtle, notes will remain.

Since everyone has their own leather scent, don't be surprised if the same scent on you and your girlfriend "sounds" differently. The smell of the skin is influenced by various diseases, and food (too spicy, salty), as well as external factors - temperature and humidity. In humid, hot climates, aromas spread faster, with heavier odors becoming even heavier.

When choosing a scent, you should also consider your age. The skin of a young girl and a mature woman is very different in their properties. Floral and refreshing perfumes (aromas of spring flowers - violets, roses, lily of the valley, jasmine) are more suitable for young women. For older women, almost any fragrance is suitable, you just have to think about the atmosphere in which you are going to smell. During the day it is better to prefer lighter scents, and in the evening you can afford almost everything, depending on your mood and plans.

By the way, when buying a new scent I advise you to first purchase a small bottle (sample)to appreciate the perfume at home or in the fresh air. Indeed, as we said above, the aroma takes on its "true face" only after 15-20 minutes. If after that the smell seems attractive to you, feel free to buy as many cherished milliliters as your wallet will allow.

By the way, until the beginning of the 20th century, perfume was considered a luxury item. Their price often exceeded that of jewelry! Until now, the most expensive perfume in the world is produced by the English company Clive Chistian, founded in 1872. The cost of 30ml of this perfume ranges from $ 690 to $ 75,000! Each handmade crystal bottle is topped with a Victorian crown, and the perfume recipe is kept in the strictest confidence.

Remember that fragrances come in different concentrations. Perfume (parfum, extrait) has a concentration of 20 - 30%. Eau de parfum (eau de parfum, Parfum de Toilette, Esprit de parfum) - 15 - 25%. Toilet water (eau de Toilette) - 10 - 20%.

A few drops of perfume - and the scent will last the whole evening. Eau de parfum lasts 4-5 hours and is usually used 2 times a day. And eau de toilette is suitable for daily use at any time according to your mood.

So when you buy a scent, not only ask the seller which scent the scent belongs to, but also pay attention to the label.

Perfumes, eau de parfum and eau de toilette are not only an addition to clothes and make-up, they can very often help to lift mood, improve well-being and transform intimate relationships, as well as relieve tension and stress. And Coco Chanel said: "You need to apply perfume only where you want to be kissed." Let's try?
