For several months, she tried not to talk about luxury gifts. And once, when asked about a certain diamond present, Naomi Campbell used her favorite weapon - screams and fists. But in the end, she did agree to testify in court in the case of the former President of Liberia, Charles Taylor.

The International Tribunal for Sierra Leone in The Hague (Netherlands) intends on July 29 to hear the testimony of the top model about the gem that Taylor allegedly presented to her thirteen years ago.

In September 1997, Campbell attended a dinner with South African President Nelson Mandela, where Taylor was also a guest. According to the investigation, in the evening after dinner, the top model received a diamond from the former leader of Liberia.

Liberian President Charles Taylor has been under investigation by the Hague Tribunal since 2008. He is accused of supplying arms and conniving at crimes against humanity in Sierra Leone. Recall that in this African country there is a permanent war between the rebels and the central government. For the purchase of weapons, the rebels use diamonds mined through slave labor.

The Black Panther was asked to testify back in May. But Campbell has repeatedly stated that she does not intend to participate in the Taylor trial. Now, in case of failure to appear in court, the top model faces up to seven years in prison, as well as a fine of $ 500.

However, the statement emphasizes that Campbell has been summoned to court as a "witness", "she is not accused of anything and there is no legal process against her."

In addition to Campbell, the famous American actress Mia Farrow and former Campbell agent Carol White are to appear in court, since they also attended the 1997 event. By the way, according to White, Naomi received six large diamonds as a gift, and not one, as reported by Farrow.
