During his televised address on March 25, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the weekend next week, from March 28 to April 5. This period will be inactive due to the situation in Russia related to the coronavirus.

Vladimir Putin said that in this case, Russia will face a future similar to what is now happening in Western countries, in Europe and overseas. The recommendations given by the WHO and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation must be followed.

The head of state urged Russians to take care of themselves, their loved ones, and also approach this issue with special discipline and responsibility. He believes that the safest thing today is to be at home for a while.

Labor legislation

It is not clear in what form Putin's decision to make next week a non-working week will be approved. The head of state did not say this. According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the days off officially established by law (in most cases these are traditional Saturdays and Sundays) can be postponed to other days on the basis of a government decree or federal law

Despite this, in accordance with the Labor Code of Russia, the government decree in this case must be officially published no later than 1 month before the onset of a suitable calendar year, or no later than 2 months before the date of the proposed holiday.

Shortly before that, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin had established restrictive measures in the capital due to the danger of coronavirus infection.
