During his televised address on March 25, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the weekend next week, from March 28 to April 5. This period will be inactive due to the situation in Russia related to the coronavirus.

During his televised address in connection with the spread of coronavirus infection, Vladimir Putin said that at present it is very important to prevent the danger of the rapid spread of the disease. In this regard, he declares the next week a non-working week, and with the preservation of wages. In other words, the weekend will run from Saturday 28 March to Sunday 5 April.

Along with this, the head of state noted that all life-supporting structures, including banking organizations, shops, medical institutions, public transport and pharmacies, as well as authorities will continue to work.

The President recommended to take the issue of coronavirus infection seriously and not hope that it will pass by. According to him, many people believe that they will not be affected by this disaster, but everyone can face the virus.

Vladimir Putin said that in this case, Russia will face a future similar to what is now happening in Western countries, in Europe and overseas. The recommendations given by the WHO and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation must be followed.

The head of state urged Russians to take care of themselves, their loved ones, and also approach this issue with special discipline and responsibility. He believes that the safest thing today is to be at home for a while.

Labor legislation

It is not clear in what form Putin's decision to make next week a non-working week will be approved. The head of state did not say this. According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the days off officially established by law (in most cases these are traditional Saturdays and Sundays) can be postponed to other days on the basis of a government decree or federal law

Despite this, in accordance with the Labor Code of Russia, the government decree in this case must be officially published no later than 1 month before the onset of a suitable calendar year, or no later than 2 months before the date of the proposed holiday.

The President of the Russian state is confident that by staying at home, the Russians will be able to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Shortly before that, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin had established restrictive measures in the capital due to the danger of coronavirus infection. Due to illness, the vote on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation was postponed. It was supposed to take place on April 22. At the moment, the new date is unknown.

Vladimir Putin asks Russians to listen carefully to the recommendations of doctors and to follow them impeccably, as well as to organize self-isolation.
