Psychologists have long said that being overly involved in work and career can ruin your personal life. Now they are joined by physicians, who assure that increased zeal in the performance of their professional duties is seriously harmful to health. Back pain, obesity, depression and a high risk of stroke are just some of the problems most commonly encountered by workaholics.

In a large-scale survey, employees of the British Chartered Physiotherapy Society (CSP) concluded that due to the heavy workload, a third of Britons cannot find even half an hour to dine, let alone rest. The health of workaholics is ruined by such bad habits as long work in the same position, as well as unwillingness to take sick leave in case of illness or stress.

CSP is convinced that not only employees, but also employers pay for overload and absence of interruptions: the former worsen their health, and the latter receive less or lose profits due to the decrease in the productivity of their subordinates.

In addition, daily emotional stress at work, outdoors or at home can trigger the growth of cancerous tumors. Stress acts as a bridge through which mutant cancer cells clump together to form a deadly mixture.

Doctors warn that workaholics are more likely than others to suffer from physical ailments and mental disorders. Their life is a constant stress, the body does not chronically get a break, Kompuulenta reports.

In addition to the burnout syndrome, chronic fatigue and various neuroses, a person who has done work with his Siamese twin usually has problems with the back, stomach, blood vessels, heart and a whole bunch of diseases. In this case, the workaholic usually moves slowly and steadily towards a heart attack. Doctors note that for those who devote themselves to work without a trace, this is a downright professional problem.
