The latest coronavirus news from Vietnam and China is encouraging, but the situation in Europe is becoming more alarming. At the beginning of March 2020, according to the latest media reports, cases of a dangerous infection were detected in almost all countries. Let's find out which of them have already been closed for quarantine purposes.

General overview of the situation

The coronavirus has been found in more than 160 countries around the world, but gloomy predictions about the "second Spanish woman", which claimed more than 3 million human lives during World War I in Europe alone, have not yet come true. Countries are divided into three risk groups:

  • in the first - China, Iran, Italy, South Korea;
  • in the second - Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan;
  • in the third - Russia, Finland, Mexico, Canada and the countries of the post-Soviet space.

According to the latest news as of early March 2020, experts from the United Kingdom and the United States are predicting global infection and high mortality.

Doctors in Russia and Canada are more optimistic - they are confident that the discovery of a vaccine by Chinese scientists and the development by Russians of five options for immunization to the resulting strain will allow the world community to cope with the pandemic.

Confidence is also inspired by the significant prevalence of the number of safely recovered people over the number of those who could not survive the complications from the coronavirus due to low immunity.

Situation in Europe

The wave of the spread of viral infection covered many European countries. However, in most of them, the sources of potential infection were local citizens or foreigners who came to the country from places where there is a significant number of cases:

  • in the post-Soviet space, cases were found in Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, Russia;
  • cases were registered in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Holland;
  • there is data on cases in North Macedonia, Croatia;
  • coronavirus in Europe has spread to Italy, France, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Monaco, Germany and Austria;
  • and also in the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Great Britain and Greece.

Potential tourists who had previously planned trips, representatives of the business world, fans of the European Football Championship and Eurovision, those who applied for the Olympics, anxiously keep track of which countries are closed, how realistic the prospects for the planned events are.

As recently as yesterday

The latest news reported that the peak incidence, previously expected in February, based on statistical data and their analysis, is now expected in March 2020. Today, the number of infected people is confidently approaching 100 thousand people, but in general in Europe everything is not so tragic:

  • in Belgium, Sweden and Norway, the sick are also citizens of the country who have returned or evacuated from Wuhan;
  • in Georgia and Belarus, the infected - citizens of Iran - a student and a businessman who flew through Azerbaijan, the same situation is in Estonia;
  • in the Netherlands, Switzerland, North Macedonia, Denmark, those infected with the coronavirus brought it from Italy (one infected each);
  • in Russia, these are two Chinese citizens, timely isolated.

So far, there is little information about which countries are closed. It is logical to assume that such measures were taken by the countries leading in the number of patients with coronavirus and the starting death rates in Europe.

We are talking about 15 English schoolchildren who returned from holidays in Italy, 19 cases in France, 12 in Spain, and in different regions, 21 registered since the end of January in Germany, where so far there have been no deaths.

Iran has released a huge number of prisoners from prisons so that the spread of the disease does not increase in an enclosed space, where there are many people at the same time.

The most alarming picture in Italy. The latest news reports more than 80 thousand cases, officially registered, and already about 8,000 deaths. The situation cannot be called stable, since the number of those who recovered is only twice the number of deaths from a dangerous disease.

Over the past day, more than 10 thousand new infections and 200 deaths have been recorded in the world. The numbers are not particularly encouraging, but since the beginning of the pandemic, 24,423 people have died, and more than 125,000 have recovered.

What is known about the closure of borders

Dana Spinnat, the official representative of the European Union, announced on February 25 about the possible closure of the territorial-economic conglomerate.

Russian experts said that the closure of one country in March 2020 would be ineffective, since EU citizens can safely move to nearby territories. They expressed the opinion that such a measure is ineffective, since it gives results at the beginning of the epidemic - it allows you to buy time while the vaccine is being developed.

News agencies do not have full information about which countries in Europe are closed. Janez Lenarcic, European Commissioner for Crisis Situations, announced the allocation of funds and the adoption of pharmaceutical measures.

In the European Union, there are 4 levels of risk of the disease. The decision to close the borders will be made only after an emergency meeting of EU health ministers, which will take place on March 6.

However, by the end of March, the situation had changed! Europe has closed almost all borders. Most countries are under quarantine. Italy currently ranks first in the world in terms of the number of people infected.
