For the first time, the competition, which was then called the Eurovision Grand Prix, was held in 1956 in Switzerland. Russia began to take part in Eurovision only in 1994. During all this time, they managed to win only once - in 2008. And how were things in other years?
The rules of the competition are as follows: Eurovision consists of two semi-finals and a final. Each participating country has a national jury that awards votes to the contestants. Then the audience also votes. You cannot vote for your country.
1994 year
Russia's first participation in Eurovision. Singer Judith performed the composition "Eternal Wanderer", with which she took 9th place.
1995 year
Philip Kirkorov represented Russia with the song "Volcano Lullaby". The artist managed to take only 17th place.
1996 year
This year, all countries had to go through the qualifying stage. The jury listened to the compositions and chose only 22 songs that should go to the final. Russian performer Andrei Kosinsky and his song "I am me" at this stage were awarded 26th place, so he did not make it to the final of the competition.
1997 year
Russia was represented by Alla Pugacheva with the composition "Prima Donna". As a result of the vote of the judges and viewers, Pugacheva took 15th place.
1998 year
Russia was deprived of the right to participate in Eurovision due to a poor result last year. Tatyana Ovsienko was supposed to go to the competition with the song "My Sun".
1999 year
In 1998, Russia refused to broadcast Eurovision due to the denial. In 1999, the country was suspended from the competition due to this incident.
year 2000
For two years Russia did not participate in the competition, but returned to it with triumph, taking second place. This year the country was represented by the singer Alsou with the song "Solo".

Dima Bilan first participated in Eurovision with the song “Never Let You Go”. He took 2nd place.
2007 year
Russia was represented by the Serebro group and their song “Song # 1. Result - 3rd place.
2008 year
Triumph of Russia at Eurovision. Dima Bilan went to the competition for the second time, choosing the song "Believe". The artist received the most votes and won 1st place.
