Health Minister Mikhail Murashko stated that the domestic drug Sputnik V is approved for use by persons over 18 years of age. Thus, vaccination against coronavirus after 60 years received official approval, and experts answered the question whether it is dangerous to be vaccinated at old age.

Conditions for vaccination

First of all, citizens over 60 years old need to wait for remission of chronic diseases. This requirement is indicated by Russian specialists - infectious disease virologist Nikolai Malyshev and allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok. The latter adds that in no case should you be vaccinated if you have any current disease (for example, ARVI). In general, the doctor sees no particular risks for the elderly and indicates that they are in good health if they were able to survive to old age.

Nikolai Malyshev, who is a supporter of early vaccination of elderly Russians, also agrees with him, considering this population group to be especially susceptible to the dangerous virus.

Is vaccination dangerous for the elderly

Many elderly Russians are interested in whether it is possible to get vaccinated at such a respectable age and whether it is dangerous to health. This question was answered by the developers of the Sputnik V vaccine.

“Any vaccine can cause an exacerbation, because it is almost impossible to predict the body's reaction with an accuracy of 100%. That is why the consultation of an immunologist becomes necessary,”said the head of the Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after V. I. Gamalei Alexander Gunzburg.

Severe chronic pathologies of the immune system include:

  • autoimmune hepatitis;
  • systemic lupus erythematosus;
  • HIV and others.

That is, all those factors that interfere with the normal functioning of the defense mechanism.

Therefore, the first step to vaccinating people should be a health check.

Recommendations and contraindications

The developers of Sputnik V recommend that a coronavirus test (PCR) be done before vaccination.

Vaccination is not given in such cases:

  • identified asymptomatic onset of COVID-19;
  • chronic diseases have worsened - vaccination is carried out 2-4 weeks after remission or recovery;
  • any other vaccination has been given within the last 30 days prior to the appeal;
  • the patient suffers from ARVI or has had it within 14 days before vaccination;
  • there is a hypersensitivity to certain components of the drug.

Also, Russians who participate in clinical trials of a coronavirus vaccine should not be vaccinated.

Sputnik V is used with great care in relation to allergy sufferers. The doctor must especially carefully monitor the reaction of the vaccinated organism for at least 1-2 days.

Persons who have had covid disease can be vaccinated no earlier than 180 days after cure. If a person has had a disease within the last 6 months, a quantitative antibody test is performed.

Immunization should be carried out only when this figure is below 10. In other cases, it is believed that the amount of antibodies is sufficient to fight infection in case of re-infection.

Limitations and possible consequences of vaccination

After the introduction of the vaccine, the following restrictions must be adhered to:

  • refuse to visit the bath / sauna, do not wet the injection site for three days;
  • avoid excessive physical exertion, as well as alcohol intake.

At first (24-48 hours), unpleasant sensations may occur, which stop within the next three days:

  • local reactions - edema, hyperemia, soreness at the injection site;
  • flu-like syndrome: fever, chills, headache, general malaise, asthenia, myalgia, arthralgia.

Less often, patients complain of decreased appetite, dyspepsia, and nausea. In some cases, regional lymph nodes increase. Allergic manifestations are possible.

In case of pain, swelling and redness of the vaccination site, it is recommended to take antihistamines. When the temperature rises, anti-inflammatory nonsteroidal medications should be taken.

How and where to get vaccinated

Muscovites over 60 years old can be vaccinated against coronavirus from December 28. For this purpose, 70 vaccination centers have been opened, operating on the basis of city polyclinics.

The work of these points has been adjusted so that every pensioner has the opportunity to get vaccinated even during the New Year holidays.

If a citizen is attached to one of the capital's clinics, there are several ways to sign up for vaccination:

  • through the Internet resources emias.info and mos.ru;
  • through the information service of a medical institution;
  • in city mobile applications "EMIAS. INFO", "My Moscow", "State services of Moscow" or by phone.
