What influences the decision of a married couple to dissolve the marriage? This question was puzzled by experts from the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) and conducted a survey among the citizens of the country. The respondents named poverty, unemployment, adultery and inability to compromise as the main destroyers of marriage.

Earlier, experts said that under the conditions of the sanctions, married couples live better than bachelors.

25% of Russians say that the collapse of family happiness can be caused by poverty and unemployment. Marital infidelity is considered a reason for divorce only 14% of respondents. It is interesting that material difficulties are more often called the older generation as a reason for divorce, and young people are more often not ready to forgive betrayal. Also, according to the respondents, selfishness (13%) and character mismatch (12%), alcoholism or drug addiction (7%) of one of the spouses can lead to divorce.

At the same time, material dependence and religious customs interfere with parting with the other half. The issue of raising children is very acute. A quarter of the respondents consider the question of who the children will live with as a serious obstacle to divorce. About 26% believe that the spouses are kept together by the difficulties with the division of property and the benefits of living together.

Sociologists have compared the current data with the results of a survey conducted 25 years ago. And it was found that the number of supporters of divorce due to the "actual breakdown of the family" decreased during this time, but the number of those who believe that "everything depends on the specific case" increased. In addition, the number of those who believe that material dependence and religious beliefs can hinder divorce has more than tripled.
